Abstract: This research combines the rain with residential area waterscape together. Through the survey, we find some commom problem that the water quality is poor and some waterscapes often have no water and the waterscape design is stylized in residential area waterscape and analyse reason, then put forward the way to solution the problem in waterscape by rain.In order to effectively use rainwater to waterscape, considered the difference between the pluvial region with the little rain region, compared the different features of middle-small and large residential areas, adopted different measures. Topic significance lies in the concept of low carbon environmental protection can be incorporated into people’s lives, improve people’s awareness of resource conservation.

Abstract: Rainwater utilization is always paid attention by the government and research institutes in Beijing, as its lack of water resources. Lots of rainwater utilization projects were built in the urban and rural areas. More than 80 rainwater utilization projects were completed in Fangshan District, which located in the suburbs. They effectively saving water resources and improving the rural water environment. Combined with the characteristics of rainwater resources in Beijing, a new rainwater utilization mode about sewage purification and reclaimed water reuse appeared during the construction process, providing reference for promote rainwater utilization projects in Fangshan District.

Abstract: The research focus on the problem of low rainwater resource utilization efficiency, water quality and short of site visual effects and potential safety hazard of site which caused by deficiency of site appropriateness in urban construction in Northwest semi-dry and semi-humid region. Bring a present to the topic of rainwater utilization site appropriateness research. Firstly, basing on the research status of domestic and overseas, analyze the present problems of lack for site appropriateness. Secondly, rise up a series of theories of research direction and ideas such as traditional construction experiential scientization, site characteristic categorization for different rainfall capacity region, the site elements influence rainwater utilization, analysis and evaluation of the site appropriateness factor.

Abstract: This article induced external condition and internal factors of the sports building system firstly. Then it discussed the necessity and possibility of integration sports building design with low-carbon idea. Furthermore it investigated different essential factors which constitutes the sports building system, proposed systematic design strategies such as function conformity adapting, highly effective structure shaping, rainwater utilization, solar energy utilization and so on. Finally this article brought forward integration design mentality unified the architectural education and practices.

Abstract: According to the extremely uneven situation of monthly rainfall in China, in order to both improve utilization efficiency of non-traditional water resources and realize economy applicable in green residential districts, an optimization method of monthly water dynamic balance of non-traditional water resources utilization in green building based on landscape water regulation function was put forward. The optimization method was made full use of large capacity of landscape water regulation function, combined with monthly water consumption law between supply and demand of non-traditional water resources in districts. And this method was applied in a green residential demonstration district in western China.

Abstract: This paper presents the thermal performance of a multi-effect distillation (MED) solar desalination unit located in southern China. The system was designed and installed in April 2011, and has been in operation since that time till now. The seawater desalination system is driven by 60 m2 all-glass vacuum tubes solar collector with an additional rainwater utilization system to produce fresh water on both sunny and rainy days. The preliminary experimental results show that the water production of the system for per unit of solar collector area could reach up to more than 12.5kg/m2·day under the fine weather conditions. Water production of the system was stable in long period and the annual production could reach to 387.5 m3 in southern China. The economic performance of the system is also discussed. The cost of water production is estimated approximately 4.15 $/m3 for the 15-year service life.

Abstract: As a crucial part of rainwater utilization engineering, the design of the cistern size has a great influence on the project investment and efficient operation of systems. In this study, the mathematical models of relationship among the effective volume, investment and water-saving benefits are established based on the rainfall data of typical year. With the help of these models, we can calculate the effective volume of rainwater cisterns, then analyze the engineering benefits and demonstrate the feasibility of the project. So this paper offers reference for the effective volume determination of rainwater cistern in city districts.

Abstract: With the deepening of urbanization, the urban water environment is dramatically changed. The flood peak emerges in advance and flood volume is more tremendous, which results in frequent urban flooding disasters. The increasing demand of fresh water intensifies the shortage of portable water. In combination with the requirements of sustainable building, we design the rainwater harvesting and reuse system in DSM (China) limited. Some structural BMPs measures, such as green roof, managed grass, cobble trench, pervious paving, vegetative swale, sedimentation and fiber filter, are utilized in this project. The treated runoff is reused for flushing toilet in buildings. The stormwater runoff, equal to 90% of the average annual rainfall in the development site, is captured or treated, and 80% of the average annual post-development total suspended solids (TSS) is removed, the rate of total water saving is 71.1%, runoff quantity of post-development is lower than pre-development. The stormwater is filtered and infiltrated to the most extent, which creates a good water environment and a beautiful landscape for the development site. The reduction of portable water utilization brings good economic and social returns for the water system. Additionally, the design is awarded gold of LEED-NC by LEED-NC core committee, which can be a demo project for sustainable building in Shanghai.

Abstract: Rainwater utilization has great potentials for recovering hydrological cycles, for buffering extreme run-off situations in the watercourses, and for reducing the costs for water supply in urban area. However, little information is available on the water qualities and runoff properties of collected rainwater, which is critical for efficient design and maintenance strategies of rainwater harvesting facilities. In this study, characteristics of rainwater collected in a rainwater harvesting system were examined in terms of pollutant concentrations. Based on these results, TiO2 photocatalysts were applied on the roof surface as a novel coating material to improve the quality of collected rainwater. The analysis of rainwater samples shows that the contamination by turbidity, conductivity, and color occurs during the catchment process, which may result in troubles for further use. The roof coating technique developed in this study appeared to be effective in increasing the wash-off of pollutants and improving the water quality in roof runoff because of its increased hydrophililicy as well as photocatalytic reactivity. Further research is required on trace pollutants such as endocrine disruptors to estimate and minimize health risk in rainwater harvesting.
