Abstract: Parts precision is one of the key points in industrial application of rapid prototyping technology (RPT), and also the pivot of RPT research, but presently high precision is hard to achieve. This paper focuses the emphases on the principle of error analysis. Obtain chord errors corresponding to the number of triangles with pro/E software during the STL, and the formula for computing stair errors taking the quarter of sphere for an example during the slicing. In the end, propose the measures to improve the principled errors, viz. sloping slicing, adaptive slicing, direct slicing and so on, and further propose the theoretical range of adaptive slicing thickness.

Abstract: Rapid tooling developed from the rapid prototyping technology is a new method and technology of mold making, and this paper mainly studies the composite aluminum-filled epoxy (CAFÉ) mold, which is one of the rapid bridge toolings, applied to thermoforming of the plastic parts. The material formula of the CAFÉ mold with E51 as matrix is developed, and using the formula we have made the CAFÉ mold for the back shell of a cell phone charger, which is installed at the injection molding machine to do the test and finally successfully obtain the polypropylene sample. In addition, the process of making the CAFÉ mold is described in detail in the paper.

Abstract: This work deals with the problem of casting production from high-aluminum cast iron Al22D. This cast iron is characterized by unique combination of properties [1-3]: high heat-resistance in corrosive gases medium especially containing sulfurous gases; relatively low density in comparison with gray iron and satisfactory mechanical properties. In addition, castings made from high aluminum cast iron Al22D are required in many areas of mechanical engineering. However, obtaining high-quality products from this cast iron is a particular problem due to its low-casting properties, especially its high tendency to gas saturation, oxidization and forming scabs, shrinkage and gas-shrinkage defects. Therefore, the aim of this work is the study of the castings feeding parameters. In addition, the technology of "exhaust manifold" casting of internal combustion engine designed to work in forced mode was developed on the basis of the obtained results.

Abstract: The self-made metal cored wires with Fe-Si-Mn-Ti-B microalloyed series were adopted to directly form a part by gas metal arc welding (GMAW) surfacing rapid prototyping technology. The microstructure and microhardness of the part are both investigated. Its continuous metallographic microstructure along and vertical to the deposition direction shows layered characteristic, due to the special thermal cycles and cooling conditions. The microhardness values of intermediate sections of the part are much higher and stabler than those of surface sections. It is necessary to deposit a wear-resistant metal layer for enhancing the surface abradability. Among the microstructures of the part, the average nanohardness of acicular ferrite is 1.28 times than that of massive ferrite, but their Young’s modulus values are almost equivalent, which indicates acicular ferrite possesses excellent mechanical property. Therefore, achieving acicular ferrite microstructures is an appropriate means to enhance the combination property of the formed parts.
