Abstract: The proportion of plastic components in automobiles has increased over past few decades. With the pressure of legislation on treatment of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) and economical and environmental concerns, the management of plastic scrap in ELVs is becoming an important issue. This paper reviewed utilization of plastics in automobile production and traditional management of components from ELVs, with introduction of new legislation problems have been identified in the recycling of plastic from ELVs. Some examples of closed-loop recycling of plastic automobile parts are presented, and the potentials of using recycled plastics in automobile production are also discussed.

Abstract: Chemical etching, which is the most sensitive method to recover obliterated serial numbers on metal surfaces. This paper studied the method of recovering obliterated engraved vehicle identify number on aluminum engine surfaces by alkaline etching technique. Experiment research indicates that 25% sodium hydroxide solution not only can recovering original vehicle identify numbers on aluminum engine effectively, but also is easier to prepare and lower volatilizable than traditional method which uses acid solution. With the popularization of aluminum engine in motor engine, the method using sodium hydroxide solution to recovery has far-reaching application prospects, especially in the robbery cases involving vehicle identify numbers juggled.

Abstract: Chemical etching, which is the most sensitive method to recover obliterated serial numbers on metal surfaces. This paper studied the method of recovering obliterated engraved vehicle identification number on vehicle frame surfaces by etching technique. Experiment research indicates that for vehicle frame materials containing Al and Si components, the use of concentrated hydrochloric acid : acetic acid : ethanol=2:1:1( volume ratio) reagent shows good effectiveness; For vehicle frame materials Mn and Si composition, the use of concentrated nitric acid: acetic acid: ethanol=1:1:1 ( volume ratio) shows good effectiveness. This recovering method has far-reaching application prospects, especially in the robbery cases involving vehicle identification numbers juggled.

Abstract: In order to form thin metal sleeve with the thickness of 0.03 mm, type 304 austenitic steel sheet was deeply drawn to a cup and spinning method applied to its body. The sleeve shows high strength with a dual-phase microstructure of fine austenite and transformed martensite. Pancaked austenite and martensite grains were highly elongated along RD (drawing direction) in the layer structure, and their grain width was about 100 nm. Dynamically recovered austenite grains were highly aligned from {101} to {101}. The strain-induced martensite grains mainly showed two components of {001} and {111}. Recover and recrystallization of the sleeve appeared at the temperature from 873 K to 1073 K. Annealed at 1073 K the austenite grains were mostly recrystallized with intensifying {101}, and the martensite grains were also reverse-transformed to austenite.

Abstract: Dry granulation, as a new process of molten BF slag treatment, is an attractive alternative to water quenching. The medium in the heat exchanging process is air which results in low efficiency. Therefore, the technique for waste heat of molten BF slag recovery is exploited. The waste heat is recovered by waste heat boiler which produces high pressure steam for generating electricity. The heat transfer characteristics of apparatus were investigated. The results show that the overall heat transfer coefficient can reach 111W/ (m2•K) and the heat recovery can reach 90% at most. If slag granule diameter is less than 2.5mm and descending velocity is higher than 1.0mm/s, the cooling rate of slag granule is over 10K/s. Then slag granules can be used as nicer materials to produce Portland cement. When slag granule descending velocity equaled to 1.1mm/s and the flux of water equaled to 0.15m3/h, small quantity of steam appeared in the first and second row tubes. They proved the feasibility of this technique. The application of this technique has a significant social meaning.
