Abstract: This paper introduces an electro-mechanical throttle actuator and presents its real time position controllers using a proportional-derivative-plus-conditional-integrator (PDPCI) controller. The throttle actuator is built using a linear actuation DC motor which is directly connected to the engine throttle using a metal cable. The throttle actuator system is remotely placed inside the control room for carrying out engine performance tests safely. A PC-based ratio controller system is implemented using Matlab/Simulink® software and a NI PCI-6259 data acquisition system card. Two sets of initial PID parameters, opening and closing, are determined experimentally using combination of relay feedback method and Ziegler Nicholl formula. The performance of the throttle actuator controller is assessed in terms of percent overshoot, settling time and steady state error.

Abstract: This paper analysized the Ziegler-Nichols setting method based on the ideal relay feedback identification. There are errors in the method. So, we consider to adopt hysteresis relay feedback to countact the error generated by the load disturbances and improve the measurement accuracy to eliminate errors. We proposed a PID parameter setting method stability margin method based on the hysteresis relay feedback identification. It can be seen from a plenty of simulation experiments that the control performances of the methods in set value tracking and interference eliminating are very good.

Abstract: A review of mass measurement devices developed by the author is presented. According to the measurement principles, the treated devices are classified into two types. The first type uses a dynamic vibration absorber as a device for both mass measurement and vibration control. The main advantage is no vibration transmitted into the surrounding structures during measurement. The second type uses relay feedback. The advantages are simpler mechanism and robustness against disturbances. In this article, the principles of measurement of each type are presented.
