Abstract: Development of design software in the last two decades has led to marketing products with complex shapes; which, cannot be materialized without the aid of the computer. For some product development processes, reverse engineering (RE) allows generating surface models by three-dimensional scanning techniques, and consequently this methodology permits to manufacture different parts and tools , shortening the development time. The paper presents a redesign process applied on a thin walled plastic component using the Reverse Engineering technique. The part was scanned, modified and subject to simulations that will certity the flow and filling of the cavity.

Abstract: In order to improve the reliability and stability of the automobile suspension system, the important parts of automobile suspension control arm is studied. Reverse engineering technology is applied to reverse modeling according to the characteristics of complicated suspension control arm shape. At the same time, the automobile suspension control arm is analyzed under load condition to ensure that the automobile suspension control arm is safe in the process of driving. The control arm meshing and strength analysis are completed by ANSYS analysis software. Finally, ANSYS fatigue analysis module is used to verify that the automobile suspension control arm can meet the requirement of fatigue strength.

Abstract: Accurate surface modeling of washing liquid bottle is to get through RP technology. Point cloud data of washing liquid bottle is obtained by hand-held laser scanner and processed by Imageware software, 3D model is got by Pro/E. Rapid prototyping machine is used to print solid model. High precision model built by ABS is easily got without complex processes.

Abstract: Reverse Engineering (RE) and Rapid Prototyping (RP) were used for manufacturing cream bottle. Points cloud data of cream bottle was accessed by handheld laser scanner firstly. Then, points cloud data was handed by Imageware software and the three-dimensional model was formed by Solidworks software. Finally, the entity model was manufacturing by RP machine. In the research, rapid prototyping was combined with reverse engineering technology, manufacturing cycle was shorten, production requirements, improve efficiency and other advantages were met.

Abstract: Model design and rapid prototyping are utilized to manufacture push-ups frame. Point cloud data can be obtained by scanning parts with hand-held laser scanner, and imported into the Imageware to process. The varied points are removed, the missing points are repaired, and then the 3D model is designed through the Pro/E. Finally, the frame model is completed by rapid prototyping printers. The manufacturing period is shorten through the way of putting two technologies in the field of manufacturing together, the production requirements are met, and the business efficiency is improved.

Abstract: This work introduces the workings of reverse engineering, its characteristics and application methods and proposes a data acquisition system applicable to industrial design, namely, three dimensional sensing system (3DSS). This work also gives a detailed account of 3DSS data acquisition methods and issues that deserve special attention in operation. A car model reconstruction case is provided as an example to study the performance of 3DSS in reverse engineering. Results have confirmed the significant role of this data acquisition method in reverse engineering.

Abstract: The paper presents a methodology developed by the author for reconstructing surfaces of shaping the punch which is an element of the stamping die. It describes the entire process of the punch reconstruction i.e. 3D scanning, modeling, FEM analysis and processing. This process was implemented by the stamping press cooperating with the authors. Conclusions have been formulated.

Abstract: To elucidate the mechanism that the software Gemagic Studio and 3D printer have an important role in repairing and copying the ancient cultural relics and the damaged sculpture, we take the damaged sculpture, Sissi, as the example, repaired it based on reverse engineering, 3D scanning technology and modern 3D printing technology. In the process of research, we obtain the point data of it, using reverse engineering software Gemagic Studio for the noise removing, compaction, hole filling, surface repair, error ratio and so on. And then import the 3D printer for 3D printing. At the last, the precise entity model proved that we have a wonderful experiment.

Abstract: Using reverse engineering technology software, Imageware and UG, and taking the card buckle as a prototype for the practical application of reverse engineering, this article discusses the method of combining reverse engineering with rapid technology. Using optical system to collect images, and then through the computer image processing technology to extract edge contour digital points, using the existing CAD software processing system for the reconstruction of 3D model, and taking a detail analysis of the critical technology of surface reconstruction, using rapid prototyping technology for processing molding, so as to improve the efficiency of product design, shorten the product development cycle. And at last, through the test, we get some usual problems and solve them one by one.

Abstract: Engine intake system is one of the important parts of the engine which affects the engine’s volume efficiency and the uniformity of air entering to each cylinder directly Wherein the intake manifold with variable length is the important part of the intake system , has great significance value to research. Due to the structure of the manifold is complex, considering the manifold structure which affects the simulation accuracy, the principle of reverse engineering was used in this paper. Firstly, the laser scanning technology was used to obtain the point cloud data of the intake manifold.And then the cloud data was dealed by software Geomagic Studio12、NX Imageware13.The software UG8.0 was used to reconstructure the 3d intake manifold with variable length model.
