Abstract: The paper deals with the microstructural and chemical analysis of military steel from World War II (WWII). The sample of steel which was found in the form of totally destroyed military armoured transporter from WWII close to Hornad River near Košice city, Slovakia by well-known Slovakian artist Juraj Bartusz in the early 60-ties and nowadays analysed by advanced techniques. Juraj Bartusz created from these pieces of steel cycle of Works under name Forest (1965 – 67) which was exhibited in Paris in Museum Rodin (1968). Steel was non-standardly heat treated by melting during fire of bombs without detonators, pure ecrasite. Thus pieces of steel were exposed to extremely high temperature and change structure. Achieved structure was analysed by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) supported by EDX chemical analysis. The layer of corrosion products of this sculpture exposed to rural atmosphere for 58 years in Kosice region was also analysed by both techniques.

Abstract: This paper integrated systematically the method of MFA, DEA, and the evaluation method of eco-efficiency, constructed a method of evaluating total factor non-renewable energy efficiency based on the perspective of green growth. And it defined the indicators system of evaluating total factor non-renewable energy efficiency. This paper gave an empirical research of total factor non-renewable energy efficiency, economic efficiency of non-renewable energy, environmental efficiency of non-renewable energy, and eco-efficiency of non-renewable energy, of Chinese provincial regions for the year 2012.Study results confirms: the method of evaluating total factor non-renewable energy efficiency of this paper, not only discussed the evaluating problem of total factor non-renewable energy efficiency of the process of non-renewable energy using, but also brought economic value, environmental influence and ecological cost into evaluating framework of total factor non-renewable energy efficiency; so it is a scientific and comprehensive tool of evaluating non-renewable energy efficiency, and is in conformity with the idea of green growth.

Abstract: Energy-saving service industry becomes a new force suddenly rises, and will be the largest energy-saving industry in the world. Tangshan City, adjacent to Beijing and Tianjin, is a typical resource-based city. Because its industrial structure is based on iron and steel, petrochemical and other resources, while energy-consuming structure based mainly on coal, that made Tangshan become one of China's high energy-consuming cities. In 2011 the city's total energy consumption was 95.5282 million tons of standard coal, accounting for 32.4% of Hebei province's energy consumption, and 2.7% of the whole state's respectively, while Tangshan City's GDP accounting for 22.5% of Hebei province and 1.2% of the nation. The huge energy consumption promotes vigorous development of energy-saving industry. The scale of Tangshan's energy service industry increases rapidly currently, for example, the output value of energy service industry in 2009 reached 32 billion RMB, and then its scale is continues to expand, and EPC(Energy Performance Contracting) is implemented gradually. However, it also shows a lot of problems, such as samll amount of energy-saving enterprises, lack of core competitive companies, shortage of funds, financing difficulties, lack of leading enterprises, irrational personnel structure, and the market system has not formed yet. If Tangshan's energy-saving services industry wants to achieve a good development, it must concentrate on that the publicity of industrial policy, creating a favorable environment for its development, speeding up development and applications of energy-saving technology, establishing industrial norms, strengthening self-discipline, innovating financial system, improve the financing environment, establishing credit publicity system, and promoting construction of industrial credit system.

Abstract: For the last two decades most professional architectural and engineering associations have encouraged their members to embrace an integrated design approach to improve and minimize the energy flows through buildings, cities and the broader ecosystem. While the integrated design approach often is portrayed as relatively novel approach, the reality is that it is only since the rise of professionalism in the Western world that the building industry developed a disjointed approach to energy design in the built environment. Previously the professions of architecture and engineering were intertwined, and the architect-engineers of antiquity, the Renaissance and the Enlightenment still can serve as role models for how building industry professionals can take a unified approach to design even considering the complexities of modern building techniques. This paper attempts to provide a brief historical review of the integrated approach to energy design that many architect-engineers took before the industrial revolution.

Abstract: Coastal management practices, regulatory decision-making, and land use planning activities along coastal areas have historically been made with insufficient scientific information concerning the dynamic environment. The idea of integration of science and coastal management has risen rapidly in both environmental science and public environmental policy since the mid-1990s, and encouraged innovative relationships between scientists and practitioners in a range of contexts. In this paper, based on materials analysis, we explore the existing practices, evaluating past successes and failures in the management mode of coastal areas in Hong Kong. Though this case study we examine the challenges Hong Kong faces presently, illustrate the strong need for integrating science and coastal management.

Abstract: The issue of female participation in the field of science and research has been researched and discussed in several studies, most noticeably in ´She figures 2009´. The latest research in Slovakia was conducted by Tatiana Sedová in 2009 and focused upon female students at two faculties within two different universities (Comenius Universtity - The Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics and the Slovak University of Technology – The Faculty of Electrotechnics and Informatics). The study´s results highlighted the presence of gender role stereotypes, but also a high and long established interest of female students in natural science subjects. Therefore, not only the topic of participation of women in science and research, but also the issue of women in managerial positions is worthy of investigation over an extended period of time. However, the statistics show a relatively low proportion of women in professor position at universities and a low number of women in top positions. The authors of this article will argue that the reasons for this long-time trend are not only based on stereotypes in thinking about gender equality. To be able to identify the next set of factors, it is necessary to carry out research over a long time period that also includes the women’s domestic and working environment. Until now, in Slovakia such a complex study has not been carried out. The article however, contains the starting point facts from the areas of participating women in science and research and in top management positions from the available statistics, relating to researches and area specifications for the future research. Finally, the authors would like to share their experience in this area obtained from UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and from the active involvement in the Seventh Framework Programme: ”Improving gender diversity management in materials research institutions” with the acronym Diversity, supported by the European Union.
