Abstract: A simple type of structure with two different fortification intensities was chosen to calculate, and the costs between the low intensity structure after reinforcement and the high intensity structure were compared. The possible economic losses of structures in different seismic fortification intensity was also compared in order to analysis the affect of intensity on the building economic effect. The result showed that the economic benefit of high intensity structure was 1.07, and the reinforced low intensity structure was 0.58. So the economic benefit of structure with reasonable seismic input was evident.

Abstract: Seismic design response spectrum and earthquake action in Chinese new seismic code (GB50011-2010), ASCE/SEI7-05 and Eurcode8 were gathered in this paper. Using base shear force method of each code, the authors computed the horizontal seismic forces of a three-story reinforced concrete frame building under the same conditions. The results show that the three static methods roughly approach, while the different parameters lead to discrepancies in calculated values.

Abstract: This paper compares the provisions of near-fault effect factors considered in the representative design codes in the world. It is found that the different codes carry out different near-fault effect values. Chinese, American, and New Zealand seismic design codes clearly present the near-fault effect factors, and Chinese seismic design code relatively presents the smallest near-fault effect values among the three codes. While Japanese code accounts for near-fault effect using empirical method and strong motion evaluation employing earthquake source model. The consideration of the near-fault effects in European Standard is the simplest among the five codes.
