Abstract: Reference to the proposed research results and abroad specification, T-beam connection is widely used in engineering steel connection. Comparing with the finite element result, it has been verified that this method can effectively calculate the moment-rotation curve. So it can be a beneficial supplement to the steel structure design code of the T-beam connections.

Abstract: Mortise-tenon joint is an important characteristic of Chinese ancient timber buildings. Survey on mortise-tenon joint of Chinese timber structures in the last twenty years is summarized and reviewed in five aspects as follows: (1) load transfer mechanism, (2) the relationship of M-θ, (3) the failure characteristics, (4) carrying capacity, and (5) seismic performance. Finally, research on the strengthening of mortise-tenon joints is presented in this paper.

Abstract: The moment behavior of beam-column connections should be considered in advanced steel space frame analysis. A trilinear model and calculation method were presented. Based on the comparison with the FEM results, it has been proved that the M-θ relationship of semi-rigid end-plate connections can be accurately estimated by this simplified calculation method and satisfy the requirement of structural design. This calculation method is simple and ease of use, it benefits application of this kind of joint in actual structure engineering and provides the basis and reference for design of the semi-rigid connection.

Abstract: In the system of preventing progressive collapse, the joints always play a key role in catenary action and alternate load path while the joints are usually under the combination of bending moment and tensional force. In this combination, high rotation capacity and good resistance of joints are demanded. In this paper, a new type of semi-rigid joint used in the structures with concrete-filled square steel tube (CFST) columns is proposed and developed by ABAQUS. The new type joint is suitable for the classification for semi-rigid connection; The bending moment resistance of the joint decreases linearly with the increase of tensional force; reducing pretension force reasonably is beneficial for the tensional force to develop “catenary action”; the width of short leg of angle would influence the moment resistance of the joint evidently; the initial rotation stiffness is not affected by width of leg dramatically.

Abstract: This thesis investigated the mechanical property of the semi-rigid steel beam-column connection and its influence upon the propery of the framework; grounded on several foreign common mathematical models on the moment-rotation relationship of semi-rigid connection, and on the basis of exponent function model, it derived the ultimate bearing capacity (Mμ) and initial connection stiffness (Rki) which act as controlling function in the formula. Also, it imitated the typical connection of top-seat-angle with double web-angle, ensured its moment-rotation curve, and provided a reference for the analysis of the ultimate bearing capacity in the second-order effect of light steel frame structure.

Abstract: The type of beam-to-column connection in framework structure is determined beforehand in analyzing the frame structure using traditional design method. But it is not comprehensive and exact following that idea. It is difficultly to find the better and more proper design result such as the type of beam-to-column connection and the section of member in many viable design results. Therefore, a new design idea on steel frame -- the active semi-rigid connection design method is advanced in this paper. And some examples on the active semi-rigid connection design and the active semi-rigid connection optimal design are showed. From results, the type of semi-rigid connection makes an important effect on the mechanical behavior of the frame; it will cause the mechanical behavior of the frame to change obviously. And it will be got a better optimal result which considering more comprehensively in the whole frame view based on semi-rigid connection optimal design.

Abstract: Calculations of the end-plate semi-rigid joints are carried out with a FE-program ANSYS. Some results of the calculations are introduced in this paper. The influences of the joints semi-rigidity on the deformation, the bending capacity and the internal force of the structure are researched; the initial rotational stiffness, the elastic ultimate moment and the plastic ultimate moment of the steel joints and the composite joints are compared. Some results may be useful for the design of the end-plate semi-rigid joints.
