Abstract: Fastener-style steel pipe formwork support is currently the most widely used form of template support during the domestic construction. At present, there are many models for the node connection pattern. This paper used ANSYS to build different connection pattern models of formwork support and draws the conclusion that the connection pattern of semi-rigid nodes is the most conform to the actual working conditions. This provide the basis for the theoretical research on fastener-style steel pipe formwork support.

Abstract: The semi-rigid steel frame-composite steel plate shear wall structure (SCSW) effectively improves the lateral stiffness of shear wall, making it possible to use the semi-rigid joint. In order to study the plastic failure mechanism of SCSW, a plastic model is established, in which the effects of the rotations of semi-rigid joints and yield deformations of infill steel walls on the energy consumption are considered. Based on that, a design method for the lateral ultimate strength is put forward and a nonlinear FEM model is setup using ANSYS. Through the comparison between plastic analysis results with the finite element results, it is shown that the plastic analysis method is feasible and has a safe redundancy.

Abstract: Based on the component method of EuroCode3, a new component model to evaluate rotational properties of extended end-plate beam-to-column joints under shearing and bending loads has been proposed in this paper. Firstly, the T-stub model was set up. And then the end-plate beam-to-column joint was simplified with a set of T-stubs. Finally the end-plate beam-to-column joint was simulated by the proposed component model consists of a series of levers and equivalent springs. With the purpose of verifying and calibrating the proposed model, an experiment of extended end-plate joint is recommended and a corresponding finite element model has also been set up. Results of experiment, FEM and component model fit well each other. The method of this paper can describe the rotational property of end-plate joint under beading moment and shear with enough precision, which can be a useful improvement to conventional design codes.

Abstract: Grid shell is a new type of single layer latticed shell. Joint connections of this structrue always adopt semi-rigid joints: in-plane pin joints, out-plane rigid joints. A parametric modeling method using self-designed program is proposed in this paper. Bearing capacity of the elliptic paraboloid grid shell with semi-rigid joints is analyzed. Then, the influence of section of steel bars, rise-span ratio and initial imperfection on the bearing capacity is investigated.

Abstract: In order to get the performance of steel frame semi-rigid joint under load, scholars made a lot of tests to research on this kind of joint. For purpose of carrying out research on steel frame semi-rigid joint better, this paper referring to many tests made by different scholars, expounds some measuring methods commonly used to do research on steel frame semi-rigid joint. Some common problems and the solutions in different measuring method are summarized, and suitable method should be chose by different experiment purpose.

Abstract: While rigid or pinned assumptions are adopted for steel frames in traditional modeling via finite element method, the actual behavior of the connections is usually neither. Semi-rigid joints enable connections to be modeled as partially restrained, which improves the quality of the model. To identify the connection stiffness and update the FE model, a newly-developed cross modal strain energy (CMSE) method is extended to incorporate the connection stiffness estimation. To illustrate the capability of the proposed parameter estimation and model updating algorithm, a four-story frame structure is demonstrated in the numerical studies. Several cases including Semi-rigid joint(s) on single connection and on multi-connections, are investigated. Numerical results indicate that an excellent updating is achievable and the connection stiffness can be estimated by CMSE method.

Abstract: A bolt-ball is a commonly joint form in latticed shells. It’s a typical semi-rigid joint, which can bear certain amount of bending moment. The performance of triangle mesh single-layer cylinder shells with bolt-ball joints in different support conditions has been analyzed detailed using the finite element (FE) software ANSYS based on several different parameters including bending stiffness, torsional stiffness, shell span, ratio of rise to span, ratio of length to width and load distribution in this paper, and key influence parameters to the load carrying capacity of cylinder shells with semi-rigid joints in different support conditions are obtained. Finally, based on the results obtained by FE calculation, a new formula is proposed for getting ultimate load of single cylinder shells with semi-rigid joints in four sides support, some references are provided for shell design.

Abstract: At present, the structure of gabled frames is the most extensively-applied structure in the single-storey industrial building and long-span single-storey buildings. The joints of corner are main connecting part of gabled frames, of which the performance directly affects the integral behavior of its structure subject to load. At the same time, the construction of joints also determines its features of the semi-rigid stiffness. In this article, numerical simulation and experimental research are conducted to investigate semi-rigid connection of corner joints in gabled frames with different height-thickness ratios of beam-column web, width-thickness ratios of flange, and height-width ratios in corner joints. The three-folder-line moment-rotation relation model has been established and the expression concerning moment-rotation relation obtained.
