Abstract: Polypropylene that consist of different loading of rice bran (RB) (0wt%, 10wt%, 20wt%, 30wt%, 40wt%) and sepiolite (SEP) (0phr, 1phr, 2phr, 3phr, 4phr, 5phr) were prepared by twin-screw extruder followed by compression moulding. The effect of RB and SEP loading on the thermal properties and flammability properties were studied through thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and UL94 horizontal burning test (UL94HB) respectively. The result from TGA revealed that RB content at 40%wt and SEP content at 4phr showed good thermal stability. The sepiolite used for flammability properties had improved the flammability matrix; however, the amount of SEP use in this study is not enough to improve the flammability of PP/RB composite.

Abstract: In this study we compared the efficiency of four kinds of amendments (silkworm excrement, coconut husk, red mud, sepiolite) and their mixtures to immobilize the heavy metals present in a contaminated acidic soil (Pb:420 mg ·kg−1 ; Zn :334 mg· kg−1) and to influence several enzymatic activities. The results showed that, silkworm excrement, coconut husk and their mixtures, which had high pH and/or high content of organic matter, reduced exchangeable Pb in the soil by 18% to 46%, and reduced available Zn by 24% to 35%, which was more efficacious than single sepiolite. The complex of silkworm excrement and red mud had a great influence on soil pH, while coconut husk increased the content of organic matter in soil significantly.

Abstract: Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA)/Sepiolite nanocomposites were prepared by melt extrusion using a counter-rotating twin-screw extruder followed by injection molding. Sepiolite was loaded in EVA is varies at 1, 3, 5 and 7 wt%. The mechanical properties of EVA/Sepiolite nanocomposites were studied through tensile test. The flame retardancy of nanocomposites were studied for limiting oxygen index (LOI). LOI tests show that the flame retardancy of nanocomposites were increased with increase ratio of sepiolite in EVA/Sepiolite nanocomposite. The tensile properties of EVA/Sepiolite nanocomposites were also increased with increased Sepiolite content in nanocomposites.

Abstract: The natural sepiolite as the main raw material, removing the quartz, calcium carbonate and other impurities through purification. The purified sepiolite was roasting activation pretreatment, in order to enhance surface porosity and reaction activity, and then was made of sepiolite composite by modifying through the use of silane coupling agent. The samples were characterized by XRD、SEM、BET、FT-IR and other chemical analysis method. The weight percentage of CO2 which were adsorbed by the modified sepiolite increased from 4% to 14.61%.

Abstract: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of sepiolite concentration (2-10 phr) on the mechanical properties of polyamide 6 (PA6) / ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) blend at the ratio 80/20. Twin screw extruder and injection moulding machine were used to prepare the samples. The strength and modulus of flexural was increased until 6 phr of sepiolite content. On the other hand, the impact strength of PA6/EVA/sepiolite composite was decreased gradually as sepiolite content increased.

Abstract: A novel Y zeolite-containing composite material was prepared via in situ crystallization with sepiolite and catalyst residue as starting materials, of which the BET surface area is up to 582 m2/g, the pore volume is 0.43 cm3/g, the relative crystallinity is as high as 55.7 %, the surface is smooth and regular, and Y zeolite particles are in the range of 0.4-1.0 mirons, the composite contains large number Y zeolite with more meso-macro porous structure.The alkalinity in reaction medium has a pronounced effect on the relative crystallinity of Y zeolite.

Abstract: This study was aimed to investigate the rheological properties and the possibility of nano(Na, Ca )- bentonites nanoproducts to meet the required drilling mud properties. Sepiolite (Sp) and the mixture of 2% nanoNaB with 1% Sp were collected and prepared from Irans oil Company (NIOC). The nanoclay performance evaluation involved the experimental tests of the rheological properties, filtration and gel strength. According to the results obtained from flow properties tests for the mixture, it was indicated that the mixture was not adequate to be a suitable drilling fluid. The main objective was to make stable dispersions with nanobentonite and sepiolite by using a water soluble polymer as stabilizer. The changes in the rheological properties of bentonite were investigated at various concentrations of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to discover the stability of the dispersions. The standard API tests were applied for drilling fluid to determine the properties of dispersions.

Abstract: Effects of adding sepiolite and mycorrhizal in soil polluted by heavy metals on nutrient elements in maize were studied. Results of pot culture experiments indicate that sepiolite treatment and combined treatment of sepiolite and mycyorrhizals can promote phosphorus and calcium absorptions by shoots and roots of maize, and prohibit their absorptions of manganese and magnesium.The sepiolite treatment decrease iron concentrations in shoots and roots of maize. The combined treatment of sepiolite and mycorrhizals give no significant effect on iron concentrations in shoots. The treatments of Glomus mosseae and Glomus intraradices give no significant effects on concentrations of phosphorus and calcium in shoots and roots, but decrease magnesium concentration in them. They show no evident effect on concentrations of iron and manganese in shoots, but increase the manganese concentration in roots. The treatment of Glomus intraradices increases iron concentration in roots. The two kinds of mycorrhizals give different performances.

Abstract: Synthetic nanomaterials have the disadvantages of large-scale investment, high energy consumption, complex production process and heavy environmental load. Mineral nanomaterials such as sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials are characterized by small size effect, quantum size effect and surface effect. Water treatment application of sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials has become an active research area and showed good development and application prospects. Based on the above reasons, this paper systematically summarizes the water treatment application of sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials, and development trend related to water treatment application of sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials were also proposed.

Abstract: Sepiolite mineral nanofibers are typical porous materials widely existing in nature and have many nanometer level micropore and mesopore, which could play an active role in many fields such as thermal insulation functional additive for composite materials. Based on the above reason, this paper briefly summarized the research progress of microstructure of sepiolite mineral nanofibers, and research orientations related to microstructure of sepiolite mineral nanofibers were also proposed.
