Abstract: Under complicated engineering conditions involved with layered soil body and water stop measures, it is difficult to figure out accurate water head drawdown according to empirical formula. In this paper, numerical analysis method is applied to calculate water head drawdown in a foundation pit engineering after confined water is lowered, making settlement calculation possible. Acquisition of calculated settlement value provides reference for evaluating buildings safety state and the feasibility of dewatering scheme.

Abstract: Based on the data obtained in the in-situ test of layered settlements in Wen-Fu Railway, the settlement regulation of the thick-layer soft soil treated by the composite structure of PHC pile-net is analyzed, and two calculation models are utilized to predict the final settlement. Since the predicted settlement is far less than the value required by the standard, the treatment method for the deep soft soils is proved to be reasonable. After that, according to the mechanism of the composite structure of PHC pile-net, the settlement values are calculated using various common calculation methods and the results are compared to the corresponding experimental data. The applicability of these methods is discussed and then the settlement calculation method of the thick-layer soft foundation treated by the composite structure of PHC Pile-net is obtained. The series of conclusions finally given provide the basis for the theoretical research and optimum design of pile-net composite foundation.

Abstract: Red Sea coral reefs in Saudi Arabia were dredged and reclaimed firstly, and then were treated by dynamic compaction as non-cohesive soil ground. Consolidated condition of improved ground within different depth is in different. Calculating settlements for different state ground should consider actual condition. Several semi-theoretical and semi-empirical settlement calculation methods mainly including Terzaghi’s method(1996), Teng’s method(1969), Meyerhof’s method(1956)are applied and analyzed to investigate the actual condition of improved ground according to the RSGT project test results, and the differences are proposed among these three methods.

Abstract: Settlement calculation of composite foundation is a hot field in geotechnical engineering research . In the paper with an engineering example, useing the equivalent natural settlement calculation methods and weighted modulus settlement calculation methods to calculate the settlement of composite foundations combined by CFG pile and concrete ramming enlarge pile, which compared with the practical measurement result . The results show that the errors of calculated value of the equivalent natural settlement calculation method were permitted and suitable for calculating composite foundation settlement.

Abstract: Stress state of soft soil foundation under vacuum preloading is completely different from its counterpart under surcharge preloading, and the method of calculating the final settlement of soil mass by means of surcharge preloading (positive pressure) is unreasonable in present design. According to a case of soft foundation stabilized with vacuum preloading and through consolidated-undrained triaxial (CU) test on the specimens sampled in situ, the stress paths under different confining pressure are obtained. The settlement of soft foundation treated with vacuum preloading is calculated by strain isoline method. Compared with the practically measured field data, the errors are analyzed and discussed.

Abstract: The finite element calculation model of the cement-soil pile composite foundation based on asymptotic homogenization theory has been built, under the state of three-dimensional stress, the equivalent elastic parameter of the composite elastic foundation model has been calculated, and depending on which, the settlement quantity has been calculated. Analysis through comparison with the testing result shows that it is feasible to use the homogenization method for calculating the settlement quantity of the composite elastic foundation, which sets up a theoretical basis for further analysis of homogenization method about composite foundation.

Abstract: As a new pile type, short pile has been widely applied in many buildings especially high-rise buildings with good economic effect. However the theory of short pile has not been systematically established yet. In this paper, some interrelated theories and researches about short pile have been introduced include pile sinking theory, pile-soil interaction theory and settlement calculation research of pile foundation. At the end, some new directions of study about short pile have been pointed out.
