Abstract: The lighting performance of top lighting solar light pipe in the meeting room in winter in Beijing has been measured under sunny and cloudy conditions to analyze whether the top solar light pipe can satisfy the general jobs lighting or not. The results showed that the indoor maximum and minimum illuminance were 163.2 lux and 115.4 lux respectively and the average illuminance was 147.8 lux in one day. The simulated average illuminance is 113lx in the same experimental time. It can satisfy the design criteria requirements and generally meet the basic for the meeting rooms. The light pipe can be the accessorial illuminance equipment to substitute partial or total artificial light sources in daily life to decrease the energy consumption of lighting.

Abstract: In response to the concept of Olympics, Beijing Olympic buildings use solar light pipe systems for daylighting, such as the underground passage in the Olympic Forest Park and the gymnasium of University of Science and Technology Beijing. In this paper, the solar light pipe systems in the two buildings have been measured to find out whether indoor daylighting performance can meet daily use requirements. At last, compare the result with T8 fluorescent lamps to get the energy saving effect of two buildings. Calculating results showed that indoor illuminance of the two buildings can achieve daily use requirements when external illuminance reaches 25036lx and17895lx, and the amount of electricity that can be saved are 2514KW•h and 22186KW•h per year.

Abstract: Dusts and condensation which exist in the application of solar light pipes can affect daylighting performance. The influence of daylighting performance of solar light pipes by dusts and condensation was studied in this paper. Through measuring daylighting performance of skylight dome on different condensation conditions, it was proved that as the drop’s mean diameter from small to big, the transmitting efficiency is directly proportional to the drop’s mean diameter, and then is inversely proportional to a certain value. Through measuring the overall daylighting performance of solar light pipes on three different conditions—clean, dusts and condensation on sunny and cloudy days, the illuminance flux was obtained. The experimental results indicated that dusts and condensation worsen the daylighting performance of solar light pipes, and dusts had bigger influences than condensation.

Abstract: Solar light-vent pipe system, which is a new kind of green, ecological, energy-saving construction equipment, combining natural ventilation with solar light pipe, can not only improve the architecture luminous environment, but also optimize indoor air quality. This study introduces solar light-vent pipe systems theories and the related technical key point to combine natural ventilation with solar light pipes, gives an overview of the research and development of solar light-vent pipe systems and discusses the current situation and future prospects.
