Abstract: SOPC becomes popular nowadays, which combines software and hardware in a single chip. In this paper, a multi-axis motion controller is implemented based on a SOPC system with a NIOSII processor in a single FPGA chip. The motion controller includes DDA module, spindle module and NURBS calculation module realized in Verilog HDL. DDA algorithm is used to drive the motors while spindle module is to drive the spindle. Because of NURBS recursive nature, NURBS calculation module is used to accelerate the calculation which takes the advantage of parallel structure. The NIOSII processor realizes the feedrate scheduling, in which constant feedrate is adopted. The second-order interpolation algorithm is used to control the feedrate.

Abstract: Mode is the natural vibration characteristics of the mechanical structure. Each mode has the specific natural frequency, damping ratio and modal shape. These modal parameters can be obtained by the calculation and experimental analysis. A calculation or test analysis process is called modal analysis. The analysis process is achieved if calculated by the finite element method, is called the analysis of calculating mode. The spindle mode of driving roll was analyzed in this paper. If clear structure in one easy frequency affected range of each order main modal characteristics through modal analysis method, it can predict the vibration response of this band structure of external or internal variety under the action of vibration. Therefore, the modal analysis is an important method for fault diagnosis of structure dynamic design. Comparing theory results with finite element results indicated that the error was less than 10 percent. The accuracy on the shaft modal analysis finite element method was improved.

Abstract: The signal which is generated by the dynamic balance regulator for unbalanced spindle in the process of adjustment, having strong nonstationarity. The traditional signal processing methods could not deal with these signals, but also could not express the processing of signal changes. Aiming at the problem, a method combining mathematical morphology filter and the short-time Fourier transform is applied in the non-stationary signal processing in this paper. Using mathematical morphology filter could reduce the noise of spindle vibration signal, and improve the SNR. The amplitude of spindle vibration signal could be got by means of short-time Fourier transform method. Utilized the method proposed in this paper, non-stationary signal of the spindle dynamic balance regulator online adjustment process has been analysed, the results of the experiment show the feasibility of the method.

Abstract: The main source of heat generation in a spindle is the friction torque in the ball bearing angular contact. The thermal and structural behavior of both spindle shaft/housing and bearings is characterized by the thermal expansion and the rate of heat generation depending on the operating speed. To evaluate the temperature distribution and its effects on the axial and radial deformations a simulation procedure is required. This paper is a presentation of the numerical models performed using the (ANSYS) commercial finite element software in order to assess the thermal behavior effect on the spindle nose axial deformation. Two numerical models were designed and simulated; the first model is a classic spindle in which heat dissipation of the bearings is removed by conduction and convection with the environment and with the second model, the generated heat is removed by water cooling circuits to improve the temperature distribution and axial deformation in the housing and spindle shaft.

Abstract: In this paper, elastic hydrodynamic lubrication theory was introduced into bearing dynamic stiffness calculation process to take into account the impact of the oil film on the rolling stiffness. Dynamic characteristics of NC boring machine spindle system dedicated to the manufacturing of bearing retainer were studied based on finite element analysis software. The rationality of the structural design of spindle was verified in the paper. The research provided a theoretical basis for the improvement of machine performance and dynamic design of NC boring machine spindle.

Abstract: In drilling deep holes with small-diameter tools in particular, chip shape is a major problem along with tool rigidity. In this study, we developed a spindle machine that has regularly repeating acceleration and deceleration regions in each drill rotation (called modulated rotation) as a new drilling spidle machine that can improve chip discharge ability. For an analysis of the cutting mechanism based on the basic principles of this device and its drilling characteristics, holes were drilled in CFRP, and Ti alloy (Ti-6A1-4V) materials using a straight shank drill. The relationship between the torque and thrust of cutting resistance force was obtained to show the relationship between cutting chips shape and cutting force. The characteristics of drilling with the developed spindle device were evaluated in comparison with regular drilling methods. It was found that the torque with this device was reduced by about 10% compared with general drilling. Outstanding chip breakup was seen with Titanium alloys in particular, as a result of which chip discharge could be improved.

Abstract: In this paper, the spindles thermal characteristics of CNC milling machine in steady state and transient state are analyzed by using ANSYS, the temperature field and thermal deformation field are obtained. After a number of tests are done in different working conditions, the temperature and thermal deformation changes of spindle are measured in every working condition. Combing the FEM analysis with tests results, the thermal deformation of spindle from starting to reach thermal balance on CNC milling machine is discussed, some suggestions are presented to improve the process precision of CNC milling machine.
