Abstract: Lifting equipment is an important part of metallurgical operations as it ensures continuity of the processes between technology nodes. Ropes are an integral part of the lifting equipment. Their quality and good conditions are a guarantee of the proper functioning of equipment, especially of its security and, therefore, the control of ropes is an important part of the operation of cranes. Malfunction of ropes can be caused by several factors and may occur for several reasons. A common cause of damage to ropes in operation is wear, but sometimes premature damage or failure of rope strands occur. Occasionally, it happens that the rope comes into contact with an electric trolley and consequently, the running short-circuit current melts the rope. This paper is aimed at the damage itself, but also a potential impact on the changes to the structure and possible changes of mechanical properties of ropes in the area struck by electric discharges.

Abstract: The creation of computer model of triangular rope strand needs mathematical interpretation of individual wires. It can be based on different assumptions in its derivation. The paper presents two options. In the first case, it is known the number of wires and the size of their diameters in the first layer of the strand, in the second case it is known number of wires and the diameter wires forming the core of strand. The parametric equations of wire axis are derived for both cases. The geometrical models of the strands are generated on the base of these equations.

Abstract: This article deals with the study of defects in steel wire. In the study we model magnetic fields around rope genetated by magnetized part of rope. The work is based on the finite element program ANSYS. For the purposes of the experiments we consider one strand wire rope construction. We define different kinds of defects and faults. The shape of the magnetic induction lines of generated fields depends on the size of the defect, the depth of rope violation or the presence of other nearby defects. The location and number of disturbances have been chosen to achieve the most versatile outputs. All of these modifications were analyzed and the results displayed in the 3D colored.

Abstract: In view of the problem of low detection precision exists in traditional quantitative detection system of broken wire for steel rope, the paper proposed a design scheme of quantitative detection system of broken wire for steel rope based on RBF neural network. The RBF Neural Network was introduced to establish the model of discerning quantitative broken steel wires. Experimental results showed that the method performed well in the identification of damage.

Abstract: steel ropes are adopted to connect the locks in a space docking lock system. The dynamic transmitting characteristics of steel rope is analyzed and formulated, and then a dynamic model of space docking lock system including one active lock and five passive locks is established. The driving forces and movement synchronization of this lock system is revealed through simulation based on the dynamic model.

Abstract: The FEM model of asymmetric twin tower building with large bases was established with FE-program ANSYS. The influences of steel rope on the structural dynamic characteristics were analyzed. The x-direction level seismic excitation were input with the help of time-domain analysis method, the influence of steel rope on the top’s acceleration ,the bottom shear force and bending moment of the structure were researched. Some useful results were obtained.

Abstract: An investigation is reported on the breakage of the diamond wire saw during stone processing. A Lot of breaken wire samples were collected from factories and observed macroscopically and microscopically. The results indicate that the breakages were mainly fatigue failure. And statistic of results show that all the breakage sites centralize on two sections. Reasons for the two break sections are also discussed in detail. Furthermore, sawing experiment was conducted to study the effect of the process parameters and the results reveal that the breakage of the wire saw is sensitive to the processing parameters. Finally, some proposals for manufacture and application were presented.
