Abstract: Rock nature is mainly controlled by joint-fissur, the stability of rock slope is mainly controlled by the joint surface, the destruction of the slope caused wedge instability formed by joint plane cutting. Stereographic projection can analyze simply and intuitively spatial association relations of straight line and plane in geological body, judge high-cutting slope stability and decisive factor of judge stability of high-cutting slope by means of direction and tendency relationship of rock slope and structural plane. This paper uses stereographic projection to analyze and judge high-cutting slope stability formed by artificial mechanical excavation in Qingxi, and decisive factor of stability according to deformation and fracture and the trends in the high-cutting slope regional, puts forward the high-cutting slope control measures and methods to ensure slope stability and security.

Abstract: Duchuanbian collapse is located inside Micangshan avenue in Nanjiang county, Sichuan province, consisting of 6 dangerous rock bands. It is in a basically stable state overall now, with partial area in a semi-stable or unstable state. Qualitative analysis is carried out in stereographic projection method taking 1st dangerous rock band of Duchuanbian collapse for example, so as to understand the structure feature of slope rock mass, and judge it may occur collapse in falling type. And then static force analysis method is used for quantitative calculations, thus determining that 1st dangerous rock band is in semi-stable state under natural condition, and it may occur collapse under action of torrential rain, earthquake and other unfavorable factors. Therefor, it requires to take reasonable measures for comprehensive treatment.

Abstract: Aimed at stability of rock slope, the attitude of structural plane is statistically analyzed with a combined method of rose diagram and pole equidensite diagram, and the preferred structural planes which are dominant in stability of slope were further determined by a lot of factors such as the terrain and topographical features of slope, the lithologic characters and the development of structural plane. Besides, the stereographic projection method is applied to qualitative analysis for the stability of rock slope. The results show that preferred structural plane can effectively reveal the nature of rock slope stability and provide a dimensional discriminant approach for stability of rock mass slope.

Abstract: The rose diagram of joint is generalized by grouping the attitude of disclosed discontinuous faces in detecting cavern and measuring point coordinate. The search of movable and key blocks of surrounding rock mass for underground powerhouse is implemented, the combinations of discontinuous faces and sliding faces, the location and the parameter of stability of movable and key blocks are obtained by used of the method of stereographic projection and vector analysis of the block theory. It is shown that the numbers of movable and key blocks in the location of downriver right side wall and vault are larger than those in other location owing to numerous discontinuous faces, and the faults of F34 and F33 play a main role in the stability of movable and key blocks. The guidance for excavation and reinforce of underground caverns is provided.

Abstract: Rock slope failure mechanisms were assessed in this study using KOPEC and RCC quarries as case studies in Oyo state. Discontinuities such as joints and bedding planes were obtained through face mapping and scanline survey of the excavated slopes of the quarries. Stereographic projections of the discontinuities were generated using ROCKPACK III and the stereonets analyzed in accordance with Markland’s plane failure analysis. The results of the analyses show that there are possibilities of plane failures in the south- east region of KOPEC quarry slope face and south –west region of RCC quarry slope face. It is therefore recommended that constant monitoring of the slope failure should be done and the slope angle should be less than 700 and 600 for KOPEC quarry and RCC quarry respectively.
