Abstract: In this paper we present the study of an archaeological structure in Pompeii and we detail the difficulties encountered applying the Italian standards and guideline when designing the new roofing structure. Following the latest Italian standards and guidelines, about the assessment and mitigation of seismic risk of cultural heritage, the analysis of the Insula has been carried out. In particular, among all the studied structures, the attention was focused on the covering of the main hall where a prototype of a roofing structure covering a portion of the hall was installed near the remaining ruins of the house. Numerical models have been developed in order to track the effect of these new roofing structures on this ancient masonry structure.

Abstract: The Structural and deformational features of fold-thrust belt in the north margin of Kashi, southern Tian Shan were disclosed based on various data such as two dimensional seismic profile and field geologic survey. The results show that the fold-thrustbelt can be divided into several rows of anticlines, includingKalaboketuoer-Wenguer, Tuopa-Kangxiweier, Atushi and Kashi on plane, and the development of Atushi anticlines and its north side was controlled by the activity of the thrust system originated along the middle Cambrian Awatage Group from north to south. The fold-thrust belt can be divided into two different spatial levels: the shallow tectonic is a large scale imbricate thrust system, the detachment surface is uplifted from Cambrian system to Neogene system; the deep structure is a buried duplex structure system, the fault in floor and fault in roof are located at gypsic horizon in Cambrian and Neogene systemrespectively. Based on structural deformation analyzing and balanced section technology, the distribution of each anticlinal belt and the structure style of the low and deep thrust systems are confirmed. In this area the distance is shortened by 32.64~49.1km from north to south since Pliocene with the scalage of 40.5%~50.51%,and its average crustal shortening rate is 9.11~13.71mm/a.

Abstract: In this paper, the following work is done: a new type of translational transmission device is designed; explained in detail are the operating principle, structural features, relationship of mechanism parameter and non interference conditions of the movement; the optimization analysis of transmission device is implemented on the basis of non interference conditions of the bucket movement; structural modeling and simulation analysis are carried out by utilization of Pro/e & Recurdyn; and based on virtual prototype technology, the new type of translational transmission device is verified by experiments, the data of which prove the translational transmission device reasonable and practicable. In conclusion, this paper has laid the theoretical foundation of the practical application of the translational transmission device.

Abstract: With the fast development of computer technology and 3D visualization technology, geological modleing has made great progress in recent years. The aim of geological modeling is to realize the integrated and quantitative prediction of underground geological bodies, and provide researchers with 3D display of geological characteristics, consequently. So, 3D geological modeling has become an important tool for people to carry out related studies in every oilfield of in China. This paper analyzes the complexity and diversity of geological bodies and geological structure, because these are the main factors that control the distribution and spread of sandboied and reservoir parameters. Based on these previous analysis, the 3D geological model is established with proper modeling method, and a certain 3D visualization of geological bodies are realized by through-well profiles and fence models. Also, the 3D geological model can provide a reliable scientific tools for decision-making for geological researchers.

Abstract: Through the assembling process analysis of the switch functional parts, the physical structure of the assembling equipment was designed and modeled, moreover, the schematic diagram of the pneumatic drive system was also designed on the basis of the motion requirements of the equipment, and finally, the I/O allocation and the electric control diagram were designed accordingly, together with the PLC programming flowchart plotted. Eventually, remarkable benefit has been exhibited after putting into production.

Abstract: We present the refurbishment work on a 200-year-old timber structure the principal cupola on top of the main building of the Vienna University of Technology (VUT). Retrofitting plans for this structure included a different use of the space underneath the cupola and leaving the ancient timber construction visible. This called for an examination of the quality of the ancient wood material, the development of modern safety concepts for fire and earthquake incidents within the modified use scenario, additional constructional measures to fulfil the requirements of these new concepts and doing an up-to-date structural analysis following the regulations given by the Eurocodes.

Abstract: In outcrops, a fault often appears to be a geologic body with some volume which is called as a fault zone. In the geologic modeling, a fault is often characterized as a surface which cannot characterize the inner structures of the fault zone and the physical differences led by different clast fillings in the fault zone. So, a new method of fault zone modeling was applied in Weizhou oilfield, the proposed method was as follows: First, the two boundaries of a fault zone were characterized as two surfaces, and the distance between the two surfaces was decided by the extent of the fault zone, and the area between the two boundary surfaces was the fault zone. Second, fault zone could be divided into several parts which would characterize its inner structures and properties. When the fault zone is characterized as a geologic body, its inner structures and properties such as its closure can be characterized, which can provide a geologic model that is closer to the actual for the post numerical reservoir simulation.

Abstract: Monastery of Stoudios, dated back to the reign of Eastern Roman Empire, is known to be the oldest surviving –albeit partially- religious building in Istanbul. During sixteen centuries, the building has been exposed to several earthquakes, fires and other minor disasters which have caused considerable damages and partial destruction in some of its sections. As a part of a general master plan for the structural condition assessment of historical buildings and monuments of Istanbul, this study aims to evaluate the seismic resistance of the monastery against future excitations. The expected failures and corresponding preventive/controlling repairs and strengthening measures will also be discussed in the article.

Abstract: We propose the Ising-like model treatment for phase transitions in pseudoquaternary
solution of SDS (sodium dodecylsulfate), toluene, butanol (cosurfactant) and brine (NaCl), that was
investigated by neutron spin echo spectroscopy [1] by Molle and coworkers. We compare the
relaxation time and diffusion coefficient in the different kinds of droplet cellular structures in
dependence on the correlation length, evaluated by lattice Monte Carlo technique.
