Abstract: Jacking formwork system has been widely used in the construction of tall buildings and modularized low-position jacking steel platform formwork system is made up of several assembled and turnover subsystems, including steel truss platform system, steel columns supporting system, formwork and rack system, two-way-acting hydraulic jack and its control system. The paper described the application of the system in Fuzhou Yu Yang Central Golden Plaza Project and construction site monitoring were conducted. According to the site monitoring result, the performance of the jacking formwork system is further illustrated. In the end some suggestions were put forward to ensure construction safet .

Abstract: In 1987, the Brundtland report defined sustainable development as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The 30 percentage of the whole world greenhouse gas per year come from buildings. In many situation when architects design tall buildings, they often take into more consideration operational efficiency instead of some influence of environment. The consumption of energy ascend dramatically in developing counties, which leads to air pollutions and increase of greenhouse gas in these countries. In China, the number of tall buildings are increasing and these tall buildings take large proportion of energy consumption. The number of tall buildings was 400 until 2000 and the energy consumption of huge tall buildings is 6 to 8 times more than common buildings. Therefore, how to reduce energy consumption in tall buildings plays a vital role in sustainable development. The holistic sustainability includes three aspects which are economy, society and ecology. The purpose of this essay is critically assessing sustainable tall buildings in China and UK. Then limitation of holistic sustainability of building scale in China would be analyzed and how to enhance it.

Abstract: The Shin Kong Tower located in Taipei City has a height of 244.15 m. It was the tallest building in northern Taiwan when it was built in 1993. This super tall building is susceptible to severe vibrations induced by strong winds or earthquakes. Safety of the building structures and its contents as well as the comfort of its occupants under such strong forces remains a significant engineering concern. Records by a structural array in the 51-story SK Building of the 1999 M7.6 Chi-Chi earthquake and 2004 Typhoon Aere are analyzed in this study. As a result, the structural dynamic characteristics of the high-rise building, including the transfer functions and natural frequencies, excited by the Chi-Chi earthquake, Typhoon Aere, and ambient vibrations are also determined and compared.

Abstract: Wind tunnel test of 1:500 rigid model of tall building with atrium was carried out. Based on the experimental results, characteristics of wind pressures on atrium facades and wind loads on the structure were investigated in detail. The results show that the formation of flow separation on the building top plays a critical role in the generation of wind pressures on the atrium facades. Meanwhile, wind pressure coefficient distributions on the atrium facades are found to be relatively uniform. Moreover, the horizontal and vertical correlations of pressure coefficient exhibit high at most locations on atrium facades. With the increasing of the opening ratio, the mean wind pressure coefficients first decreased and then stabilized, and the fluctuating wind pressure coefficients first decreased and then increased. A design guideline for the wind-resistant design of atrium facades was proposed, and the results predicted by the proposed guideline were in good agreement with those from the wind tunnel tests, indicating that the proposed guideline can be used in engineering applications. When the opening ratio is no more than 5.33%, the effect of the facade pressures within the atrium on the wind loads on the structure can be ignored. For such cases, the wind-resistant design for a tall building with atrium can refer to that of a similar shape tall building without atrium.

Abstract: Most tall buildings are constructed in the prosperous center of large cities, where is inevitable to be surrounded by many interfering buildings. Wind interference effects among buildings should not be neglected. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate wind interference effects on such tall buildings. Based on the wind tunnel test of rigid model of a tall building, the wind pressure distribution on the building with interfering buildings around it has been researched, the contours of the mean and fluctuate wind pressure coefficients have also been presented. It has been found that shielding effect and channeling effect are significant in the wind interference effects on building. Wind pressure coefficients on side wall and leeward wall of a upstream building may be dramatically changed in case the wake boundary of the upstream building is interfered. The conclusions might be used as reference to structural design and plan.

Abstract: In this paper, a improved algorithm based on Newmark-βto analyze the structural response under wind loads was presented and enhance the calculation efficiency in a great degree. The GWT was presented as an study case and its response under wind load was calculated by the proposed method. Nonlinear damping was taken into consideration in calculation. The result show that the structural RMS response in cross-wind direction is much larger than that in along-wind direction.

Abstract: Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SSE) plaza, being constructed in Shenzhen of China, is a complex high-rise building with a raised podium above ground level. The podium extends outwards from the tower structure at a maximum cantilever span of 36 meters. The lifted podium is a new concept conceived by architects but a big challenge confronting structural engineers. In this paper, the structural systems, including tower lateral resisting system, podium supporting system, floor system and foundation, are introduced. In order to evaluate the structural performance under the action of three earthquake levels specified by Chinese code, three models using MIDAS, ETABS and ABAQUS have been built; the results from the three software presented. It has been shown that the performance targets of all three design earthquake levels can be attained

Abstract: Through predict activities trend of ground fissures, given to the ground surface subsidence curve on the topper side in the next 50 years. Established a tall concrete frame construction model, using SAP2000 finite element programs, take a distance of the building depart from the fissure as analytical variables, in considering the dead load, live load, horizontal seismic action and combine with foundation differential settlement working conditions, analyze the elastic displacement and internal forces of the structure. The results showed that,in the topper side area near to the fissure, affected by the avoidance distance, the displacements and internal forces of the frame structure change remarkably. The growth and redistribution of internal forces performance are the most serious in the building base floor of framework, the internal forces change in ends of both beam and column will cause a change in the direction of bending moment, but also an inflection point of the column will change with the internal forces growth and regression.

Abstract: Risk is a concept that denotes the probability of the occurrence of dangers. The factors that generate fires and dangers are numerous, and always emerge in unapparent places. Once these factors are identified, a fire accident would happen and lead to great loss. For the fires happening in tall buildings that caused immense loss, the function of planned fire separation system was destroyed because the users had weak fire prevention concepts. One of the typical examples is the fire that happened and spread over Don-ke Building in Sijhih City, Taipei County, Taiwan. Based on the damage prevention concepts of property insurance agents, the study focused on the importance of the fire prevention management in tall buildings. The other part that was paid attention to is the Fire Safety Building strongly encouraged and propelled by the Architecture and Building Research Institute of Ministry of the Interior, with which the study conducted an investigation on fire risk management.

Abstract: Employing twisted forms in tall buildings is a relatively new architectural phenomenon, as are the cases with the Chicago Spire and Shanghai Tower. These super-tall buildings employ outrigger structures as their primary lateral load resisting systems. This paper presents structural performance of outrigger structures employed for twisted towers. Twisted tall buildings of different twisted rates are designed with outrigger structures. Two cases are studied comparatively. The first case uses spirally slanted perimeter mega-columns in response to the twisted building form. The second case uses vertical mega-columns, set back from the building perimeter, and cantilevered floor slabs from the column lines. The comparative structural efficiency of these cases is presented.
