Abstract: The system of breakout prediction with thermal imaging is developed, which used cubic spline interpolation algorithm, based on the characteristics of the practical temperature data. This system is designed using VC++. In the measuring temperature experiment, more thermocouples are arranged in the copper plate of the mold. Three rows of thermocouples are installed in the mold copper plate, and there are two adjacent thermocouples in one location. In the system, the temperature field of the mold copper plate is shown as an image, and the function of monitoring temperature on-line is realized. The image is more exquisite and pliable because of existing more measuring temperature points. This system with thermal imaging has a great application value in the steel factories.

Abstract: It is well known those two popular methods of testing; destructive testing based on fracture mechanics and non-destructive testing (NDT) which does not make any damage in the specimen. NDT was first used for military purpose but nowadays it is used widely in many fields such as composite materials, medical purposes, fire safety, laser welding, food safety and quality and characterization of materials. The aim of this paper is to review the recent advancement of thermography non-destructive methods especially in testing a quality of bio-composites materials. The review reveals the advantages and disadvantages of pursuing any of the available methods in NDT on bio composite materials.

Abstract: The changing behavior for infrared thermal image omen of the rock with fracture is essential for the geotechnical engineering. In order to study the behavior, the infrared thermal images for the failure process of rock with hole are carried out. The size of the rock sample is 20cm×10cm×2cm with hole at the center of the sample and the diameter of the hole is 1cm. Considering the fact that sample will effect the results of the observation for infrared thermal image during the experiment, the laminated granite sample was used to replace the cylinder or cuboid sample. The achieved results under uniaxial compression indicate that intensity of the micro ruptures have a close relation with the thermal effects. When the main fractures happen, there is a strip of high temperature that will appear at the destructed local area. During loading process, the abnormity of infrared temperature has two kinds of behaviors as follows: (1) temperature rises and falls alternately, rises before the fracture; (2) temperature falls slowly at beginning, and then rises slowly, then rises quickly before the fracture appears. Even for the same rock sample, the behaviors of the infrared phenomenon may be different during failure.

Abstract: This study is aimed to analyze the thermal imaging patterns presented by infrared(IR) thermography at which the metal with internal defects are thermally heated. Through the knowledge of non-destructive testing which infrared thermography can be applied to detect the defects inside the materials, there are two materials experimented; one is stainless steel and the other is cast-iron. Thermally, each material of specimens is heated at the base of the material and kept with constant temperature, The artificial defects in the specimen are formulated. Under the shape and location of the defects, temperature profiles are also measured and validated using the computer simulation. It is concluded that the characteristics of thermal patterns obtained from IR thermography are consistent with those of measurement and computations.

Abstract: New experimental methods for investigations of phase formation during SHS have been established. First experiments using penetrating synchrotron radiation and energy dispersive detectors for different classes of complex inorganic materials were carried out at ESRF (Grenoble, France) and Daresbury (UK). A new and very sensitive thermal imaging method (Thermal Imaging Technique (TIT)) based on continuous registration of the whole combustion process by using highly sensitive IR-camera and software developed by MIKRON Instruments Co. (USA) was used for precise registration of the combustion parameters. SHS was performed on different types of pure and doped complex inorganic materials in pellet and powder form in a range of dc magnetic fields up to 20 T and in electrical field strengths up to ±220 kV/m. The dc magnetic field was applied during the reaction, supplied either by a permanent magnet (transverse, up to 1.1 T) or by an electromagnet (longitudinal, up to 20 T). The dc electrical field was applied along the direction of the combustion wave front propagation. The combined processes of SHS and SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) of 3D articles for different powdered compositions were optimized with laser irradiation power.

Abstract: Recent developments in infrared camera technology, testing methods and data processing algorithms have brought significant progress for high resolution spatial and temporal analysis of thermal radiation. Together with industry standard automation technology and specific infrared image data processing it became possible to non destructively inspect laser welded seams and other types of joints using heat flux analysis subsequent to thermal stimulation. High thermal diffusion coefficients of the usually metallic samples under test make the availability of high-speed infrared cameras as a key hardware component indispensable. Since high-speed infrared cameras with frame rates of at least 500 Hz have become available for commercial applications, non-destructive testing systems with a new class of performance were designed, manufactured, and implemented at industrial sites. Heat flux analysis as a new and robust method of non-destructive testing has been implemented for various types of equipment, ranging from off-line tools for laboratory use to automated robot based systems enabling fast and operator-free in-line inspection. Depending on environment, implementation surroundings, and geometry of objects to be inspected, different types of pulsed or continuous operating heat sources (e.g. flash light, laser, … ) are selected. Due to its outstanding industrial relevance non-destructive testing of laser welded seams in automobile manufacturing is shown in detail in this paper.
