Abstract: Free vibration of thermal post-buckled functionally graded material (FGM) beams in a uniform electric field subjected to both temperature rise and voltage is studied. Voltage has a great influence on the deformation of the beam, and Thermo-electric post-buckling equilibrium paths and characteristic curves of the first three natural frequencies versus the temperature, the electricity and the material gradient parameters are plotted. It is found that the three lowest frequencies of the pre-buckled beam decrease with an increase in the temperature, but those of a buckled beam increase monotonically with the temperature rise. The results also show that the tensional force produced in the piezoelectric layers by the voltage can efficiently increase the critical buckling temperature and the natural frequency.

Abstract: Abstract: On the basis of Reddy’s higher order shear deformation plate theory and the von Kármán’s geometry nonlinear theory, governing equations for nonlinear thermal buckling and post-buckling of cross-ply laminated composite beam subjected to a temperature rise are derived, in which the stretching-bending coupling terms produced by the non-homogenous distribution of the material properties are included. By using the shooting method to solve the corresponding nonlinear boundary value problem, numerical solutions for thermal post-buckling of cross-ply shear deformation laminated composite beam with its both ends immovably simply supported under uniform temperature rise are obtained. As an example, equilibrium paths and configurations for laminated composite beam paved in term of 0/90/0 are presented and characteristic curves of the nonlinear deformation changing with the thermal load were plotted. The effects of the geometric and physical parameters on the deformation of the beam are also examined. The theoretical analysis and numerical results show that different thermal expansion coefficient ratio, elastic moduli ratio, shear stiffness ratio will influence of the non-dimension critical buckling temperature.

Abstract: Abstract: On the basis of Reddy’s higher order shear deformation plate theory and the von Kármán’s geometry nonlinear theory, governing equations for nonlinear thermal buckling and post-buckling of symmetry angle-ply laminated composite beam subjected to a temperature rise are derived, in which the stretching-bending coupling terms produced by the non-homogenous distribution of the material properties are included. By using the shooting method to solve the corresponding nonlinear boundary value problem, numerical solutions for thermal post-buckling of symmetry angle-ply shear deformation laminated composite beam with its both ends immovably simply supported under uniform temperature rise are obtained. As an example, equilibrium paths and configurations for laminated composite beam paved in term of 45/90 are presented and characteristic curves of the nonlinear deformation changing with the thermal load were plotted. The effects of the geometric and physical parameters on the deformation of the beam are also examined. The theoretical analysis and numerical results show that different thermal expansion coefficient ratio, elastic moduli ratio, will influence of the non-dimension critical buckling temperature.

Abstract: Shape memory alloy was firstly used commercially as a hydraulic coupling in the Grumman F14A in 1971. It is today used among others to improve structural behaviours such as buckling of composite plates in the aerospace vehicles. In this paper, finite element model and its source code for thermal post-buckling of shape memory alloy laminated composite plates is presented. The shape memory alloy wires induced stress that improved the strain energy, stiffness and thus the buckling behaviour of the composite plates. The finite element formulation catered the combined properties of the composite and shape memory alloys, the addition of the recovery stress and the temperature dependent properties of the shape memory alloys and the composite matrix. This study showed that by embedding shape memory alloy within layers of composite plates, post-buckling behaviours of composite plates can be improved substantially.

Abstract: Thermal buckling and thermal post-buckling behaviours of laminated composite plates are improved by embedding shape memory alloy wires within laminates of composite plates. The procedure is to use the recovery stress that is induced when the reverse transformation of the shape memory alloy from martensite to austenite phases is constrained. For aerospace applications where the source of the shape memory alloy heating is the high temperature environment itself, a study is conducted to see the effect of shape memory alloy in improving the thermal buckling and post-buckling of composite plates. Due to the temperature dependent nature of the composite matrix and the shape memory alloy, the finite element formulation developed here is in the incremental form. Solving this non-linear model using the developed in-house source code, critical loads are determined and the post-buckling paths of the shape memory alloy composite plates are traced. This study shows that by embedding the shape memory alloy within composite plates, the thermal buckling and post-buckling behaviours of composite plates can be improved substantially.

Abstract: In this study, thermal post-buckling behaviors and linear flutter analysis of Functionally Graded(FG) panels with structural damping under a supersonic airflow are investigated. First-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is applied to model the panel, and the von-Karman strain-displacement relations are adopted to consider the geometric nonlinearity. In addition, the damping is modeled as the Rayleigh damping, and the first-order piston theory is applied for the supersonic aerodynamic load.
