Abstract: This paper presents a total nitrogen (TN) detection system based on electrochemical measurement. This system integrates a three-electrode system and a specially designed detection circuit. The dynamic response characteristic of the three-electrode system during TN electrochemical determination process was studied. The equivalent circuit of the three-electrode system was used to analyze factors of interference and signal instability. Through theoretical derivations and experimental proof, a time-domain model of signal response was established and two main factors, electric double layer capacitor and holding time, were put forward. Smooth and steady signal was achieved by optimizing these two main factors. Water sample of Taihu Lake was detected by this developed TN detection system with acceptable accuracy.

Abstract: A novel micropatterning process for a particle assembly has been performed by using an electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method with a local electric field in a colloidal suspension generated by a three-electrode system. Monodisperse silica colloidal spheres with a diameter of 300 nm were used to fabricate micropattern of colloidal crystal. An interdigitated gold-microarray electrode with a 10 μm of width and a gold plate electrode were used as the working and the counter electrodes, respectively. After optimization of the EPD processing parameters, a micropattern was constructed from silica colloidal spheres. It had a relatively close-packed structure formed onto the interdigitated microarray electrode. This micropattern showed a characteristic optical reflectance peak due to Bragg’s law.
