Abstract: Results of a fairly comprehensive experimental programme aimed at evaluation of fatigue crack growth (FCG) rates in an aircraft Al 2124 alloy in T851 state, after hot rolling, solution annealing, small plastic strain and artificial ageing are presented and discussed. Measurement was performed not only in the region of stable crack growth, but also in the threshold region enabling to estimate threshold values of stress intensity factor range using method of regression analyses. FCG rates were evaluated in both L-T and T-S directions to evaluate sensitivity of FCG resistance on different microstructure orientation. Different load asymmetry conditions R = Fmin / Fmax were used, namely R = 0.1 and 0.6. Repeated measurements in more than one specimen at each condition enabled to evaluate reproducibility, scatter of measurement and to perform eventually probabilistic assessment. The reproducibility of measurement was particularly good for L-T orientation. In this case, threshold values were somewhat higher and FCG rates lower in comparison with the T-S orientation. In the contrary, cyclic fracture toughness in T-S orientation was slightly higher. The results are discussed form the viewpoint of residual fatigue life in aircraft components considering probabilistic aspects.

Abstract: High frequency filters are important components in microwave facilities application. With miniature volume, high performance and integratability, MEMS microstrip filter can significantly improve performance of Radio frequency system. By calculating chebyshev coupled microstrip bandpass filter design scheme, Threshold values of MEMS microstrip substrate parameters are defined to analyze dimensions variation property of MEMS microstrip filter relates with substrate parameters. Selection principle of substrate parameters for MEMS microstrip filter is presented, which indicates thickness and relative dielectric constant of substrate should not exceed the threshold values. The principle of threshold values can be applied as a guide on research and application of MEMS microstrip filter.

Abstract: The chloride threshold to develop active corrosion of the reinforcing steel does not seem to be a unique value and it depends on several factors, such as concrete mix proportions, cement type, C3A content of cement, blended materials, water/cement ratio, temperature, relative humidity, steel surface conditions and source of chloride penetration among others. Numerous studies have been already devoted to the study of the chloride threshold value for depassivation of the steel embedded in concrete. One of the reasons found for the scatter is the large number of variables that influence the chloride amount for depassivation. The other reason is the lack of accordance for the definition of the chloride threshold itself, either on the determining parameters (visual observation, corrosion potential or corrosion current) or on the expression of the threshold (as[Cl-]/[OH-] ratio or by weight of cement or concrete). The present paper presents chloride thresholds expressed as total, free and [Cl-]/[OH-] ratio.

Abstract: An evaluation of threshold values and fatigue crack growth (FCG) rates is a fundamental condition for an application of damage tolerance philosophy in numerous machinery components. This philosophy starts to be applied even in such problematic cases like aircraft engine blades. The paper contains results of an evaluation of FCG rates including threshold values in a heat resistant Inconel 718 / René 41 welds used in advanced manufacture processes of jet engine rotor blades. Measurement was performed at load asymmetry R = 0.05, temperature 700 oC, at low load frequency f = 0.3 Hz. Methodological approaches are mentioned. Results of FCG and particularly threshold values are discussed in connection with fractographical analyses. In addition, crack closure phenomenon and closure values are considered and discussed.

Abstract: This paper constructs a dyadic non-subsampled Contourlet transform for denoising on the image, the transformation has more directional subband, using the non-subsampled filter group for decompositing of direction, so has the translation invariance, eliminated image distortion from Contourlet transform’s lack of translation invariance. Non-subsampled filter reduces noise interference and data redundancy. Using the feature of NSCT translation invariance, multiresolution, multi-direction, and can according to the energy of NSCT in all directions and in all scale, adaptive denoising threshold. Experimental results show that compared to wavelet denoising and traditional Contourlet denoising, the method achieves a higher PSNR value, while preserving image edge details, can effectively reduce the Gibbs distortion, improve visual images.

Abstract: The formulations of fatigue crack growth prediction are still mostly based on phenomenological models. A commonly used formula in the field of high cycle fatigue is the Paris- Erdogan law. For given experimental conditions (such as temperature, stress ratio or environmental conditions) the parameters C and m have to be experimentally determined and considered as material constants. Thus, for a given material, the fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) depends only on the applied range of the stress intensity factor. In a threshold region a significant shift in the data of the fatigue crack propagation rate can be observed. The shift is induced by different test specimen geometry. To analyses it the authors will present their own laboratory fatigue crack growth rate test data measured on two different specimens with different levels of constraint and for different steels. It is demonstrated that fatigue characteristics (i.e. C, m and Kth) obtained from different specimen geometries are not only properties of the materials but depends on the specimen geometry.

Abstract: This paper analyzes Acoustic Emission (AE) signals in accurate-grinding machining, and influencing factors related in the process. It is indicated that there is favorable corresponding relationship between AE signals with different characteristic parameters and accurate-grinding status, which can be used to monitor the accurate-grinding machining and grinding quality.
