Abstract: In order to research the relation between fracture and texture conditions of PEEK thrust bearing in water, the rolling contact fatigue, RCF test was carried out. And then, the specimen after test was observed with a laser confocal microscope. Three types of surface damage: single crack, flaking and multiple crack: were ob-served. Arithmetic Average Roughness Height, AARH’s around single crack and no-damaged area were calculated. AARH’s in these two areas have no sig-nificantly different each other. This means the effect of cracks on roughness was negligible, and vice versa. The changing of AARH during the test was also dis-cussed. AARH’s both of failure and non-failure specimens were decreased dur-ing RCF tests. AARH Range of non-failure specimens after test included that of the failure specimen. It indicated AARH was not dominated the condition failure of PEEK bearing in water. On the other hands, the load had a clear threshold. This means the failure of PEEK bearing in water is strongly affected by load.

Abstract: Bearings are important in moving machinery. Today machines are used in varied fields, including environments where metals are not ideal materials. Industrial polymers are a possible alternative due to their mechanical properties, and the thermoplastic polymer Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is suitable in many varied conditions. The failure mechanisms of PEEK are not fully understood, so the purpose of this study is to continue examining the relationship between load and rotation speed in rolling contact fatigue of PEEK thrust bearings in water conditions, to evaluate fatigue strength and life.

Abstract: Based on technical difficulties of graphite water-lubricated thrust bearing such as preparation and properties detection, this paper investigated graphite bearing systematically from preparation and property testing, three different types of graphite (#1, #2 and #3) were carried out. The result indicated the tribological properties are poor if the graphitization of graphite is too high or low. The pads of water-lubricated thrust bearing are manufactured by the three kinds of graphite, and the start-stop test were carried out on a test platform for half-size bearing of nuclear primary pump. The result of start-stop test were indicated the graphitization have a visible influence on the wear loss mass of graphite pad.

Abstract: When the partially porous aerostatic thrust bearing and the journal bearings of an aerostatic spindle in a vertical milling machine are subjected to cutting load and gravitational force, the thicknesses of gaps between the thrust plate and the spindle flange will change. This study applied CFD software to analyze the effect of variations of gap thickness and rotating speed on the pressure in the gaps of the bearings and the stiffness of the spindle. The results revealed that, when the thrust plate and the spindle flange were pushed back and forth by external loading, the pressure in the gap between the spindle flange and the thrust plate was affected significantly. The pressure in the gap between the spindle and the journal bearing was slightly affected. When the spindle rotated faster, the pressure on the surface of spindle became higher and the stiffness of spindle was increased.

Abstract: An ultrasonic motor using thrust ball bearing with dimple structure on the friction surface has been proposed. The bearing balls are rotated by the friction force caused by the ultrasonic vibration of the stator, and transfer torque to the rotor. The dimple structure on the sliding surface can hold the ball position and rotate the balls and the rotor without a retainer. The newly proposed motor can avoid the friction loss between balls and the retainer. The balls of 2.4 mm in radius are used and the radii of the curvature of the dimples of 2.0 mm and 3.0 mm are used in this research. The radius difference changes the contact condition between the balls and the dimple structure. Fundamental motor characteristics are measured and discussed.

Abstract: In order to solve thermal deformation, the finite element numerical simulation of two kind of tilting pad thrust bearing is made for the same pad surface, and thermal deformation is made to analyze comparatively. The results show that the temperature field, the deformation field and the values of pad are similar for two different supported thrust bearing (point, line support) under the same operating condition. The pad temperature and deformation will increase with the increasing of pv values. According to the calculation conditions, the temperature field rose about 1°C, and the thermal deflection increased 0.002mm with pv value increased by 10%.

Abstract: Finite Element Method numerical simulation has been carried out to analyze mechanical deformation of thrust bearing under the point and line supporting condition. The simulation results indicate that the torsion deformation of the point supporting is the larger, torsion deformation is mainly radial bending deformation, and circumferential bending deformation is small, it becomes more and more obvious with the decrease of bearing pad length-width ratio under the same working conditions for the same pad. Line supporting torsion deformation is mainly the circumferential bending deformation, and the left and right sides are symmetrical along the circumferential, the radial bending deformation is small, torsion deformation related to the length and width of supporting, with their size increasing the torsion deformation decreased.

Abstract: Based on main structural features of the high strength thrust bearing shells, ANSYS has been applied, in this paper, to establish a finite element model and simulate the combined stress and deformation of the high strength thrust bearing shells and connecting bolts between them. Simulation results show that strength of high strength thrust bearing shell and the connecting bolts between the shells can meet the design requirement of the structure form with heavy thrust load and high strength.

Abstract: Thrust bearing is one of the most important components in ESPCP system, which determines the life of the whole system under the restriction of some factors such as the installation depth and the viscosity of swabbed petroleum oil etc. To increase the ability of high temperature resistance of thrust bearings under the limited radial size, the damage reason of applied bearings was analyzed. Some different modified methods were employed on configuration and material. Contact problems were researched with finite element analysis software. Comparison of the analysis results shows that in the tube, it is optimum that 8 rollers thrust bearings are used in 10mm radial tube without holders.

Abstract: The wear and tear allowances (displacements) of axial thrust bearing in air compressor was diagnosed and predicted, applying the model of artificial neural network (ANN), and compared with the traditional method of diagnosis and prediction. It showed that the results of diagnosis and prediction are more precise than that of traditional method. It can diagnosis and predicts the wear and tear allowances of axial thrust bearing better.
