Abstract: Accurate estimation of array’s phase center is of great importance in navigation, tracking and other aircraft and aerospace systems. In this paper first the effect of reference point on the phase pattern of a uniform linear array is studied and the phase center of the array is estimated. Then the effect of beamsteering on the location of phase center in phased arrays is theoretically analyzed, finally numerical simulations are carried out and the results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis.

Abstract: This paper studies the near-field beamforming. Based on near-field model, a constraint optimum beamforming algorithm is proposed. The algorithm transforms solving weight value into optimal solution searching, and obtains the optimal weight value by iterative solution. The algorithm can produce optimal beamforming under restricted mainlobe condition. Analogously, it can produce the optimal beam forming under sidelobe constraint. The algorithm can be modified appropriately depending on the desired targets to achieve the desired response control constraints. The algorithm is simple. The simulation results based on discrete uniform linear array show the validity and effectiveness of the method.

Abstract: This paper evaluates the performance of acoustic beam forming using ultrasonic transducers. A directional audible sound can be generated by amplitude-modulating the ultrasound carrier with an audio signal, then transmitting it from an array of ultrasonic transducers. A novel method has been proposed in this paper to control the beam width of the main lobe and the level of the side lobe for the beam pattern by using an optimization technique. Furthermore, the weighting distribution of uniform linear array composed of eight transducers and the effect of different weightings on the spreading angle of the sound beam have been investigated through simulations in this study. The results show that the optimization method proposed in the paper can effectively control the beam width of the main lobe and the level of the side lobe for the audible sound.
