Abstract: A new soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) experiment contemplating urea concentration is presented in the paper. We focus on the impact of the SWCC considering urea concentration test method for materials selection and introduction, experimental results, and finally, we have conducted some experiments of SWCC and obtained some valuable data which could affect urea concentration. By using linear fitting, an exponential function between water content and suction and urea concentration is established.

Abstract: Based on the characteristics of slope failure induced by rainfall, from the point of view of moisture migration and combining unsaturated soil mechanics, the characteristics of moisture migration in slope under different rainfall intensities were analyzed by finite element method. The results reveal that under rainfall, the pore water pressure in slope is in layered distribution, and at the bottom of slope, the pore water pressure is the highest, the top is lower and the middle is the lowest. The volumetric water content is in nonlinear distribution and the degree of nonlinear in unsaturated area is higher than that of the saturated area. The permeability coefficient of soil rises with the increase of rainfall intensity, and when the soil is saturated, its permeability coefficient is saturate permeability coefficient.

Abstract: A new soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) model considering urea concentration is presented in the paper. Two assumptions are used to obtain the model. One is SWCC which could be described by exponential functions in the experiments. Another is relationship between the parameters of exponential functions and urea concentration which is linear based on experimental data. In the research, we have carried out some experiments of SWCC and obtained some valuable data which could affect urea concentration. By using linear fitting, an exponential function between water content and suction and urea concentration is established.

Abstract: The saturated and unsaturated soil were widely studied by many researchers nowadays. With the development of calculation mechanics and computer, the discrete element method (DEM), as a powerful technique, has been implemented in saturated soil mechanics. This paper review the development of DEM and its application in saturated soil research. Meanwhile, it also prospect the application of DEM in unsaturated soil research. Besides, it also raised some problems that might be met in the real practice and it also tried to put forward some reasonable methods to solve these problems. In the end, this paper put forward a new DEM contact model based on the surface energy to analysis unsaturated soil.
