Abstract: The historical districts of cities in China are in a period of reconstruction and upgrading, the systematic research on these districts soundscapes will help to considerate soundscape at urban planning and design stage. The researchers collected the soundmarks at a large urban historic districts area in Guangzhou’s "Xiguan Area ", and explored people’s perception on these soundmarks through methods of soundwalk and on-site interview. The results showed that: the local language - Cantonese, was the most important soundmark of this region; the soundmark inside the blocks was the sound of chess entertainment, as well as the production and labor sound at workshops, which were the true embodiment of the urban cultural ecology and people's lifestyles; the sound of commercial activities was another soundmark which appeared in multiple places. The corresponding urban design strategy will be put forward through analysis on the soundmarks and environmental characteristics.

Abstract: Green space system within a built-up area is very important to provide an ecological and livable environment. The green patches originally locate in rural-urban fringes is of contribution to the system, with the dynamics of patches controlled by urban planning. In this study, based on the analysis of the features about green patches in fringe in their types, dynamics, and potentials, it is argued that the green patches in fringe, always under a dynamic status, can be classified to three types with dissimilar ecological attributes and function; and they have much more potentials to improve the green space system of an extended built-up area. It is also suggested to constitute a set of planning mechanics to optimize the urban green space system aiming to effectively use these green patches. After some planning principles proposed, a supplemental planning method has been put forward, so as to provide an applied planning tool.

Abstract: In the process of city development and construction, an oriented urban planning can reasonably determine the direction of the development, the population and land use structure of the city,in order to make overall arrangements and coordinate all aspects of the contradictions. Urban planning has become a necessary part in the development of the city. This paper summarizes the overall plannings of the city of Songyuan over the years, so that readers can clearly grasp the Songyuan city planning and development process and get some enlightenment.

Abstract: The Chinese Planner encounter the rapid proceeding of urbanization with both the opportunities and challenges. To some extent, some of the planning documentary do fulfill the needs of the local construction and the government controlling, but the most of the others came out to be the copies of the western theories blindly, or the manipulator of the stylish concepts by the producers. Confront the pressure of the construction at a high level of velocity for about three decades, we have to choice of self-possession, in re-thinking of the foundation of the planning logics, and in rethinking of the innate characters of planning design. The author brings about the epistemological foundation of urban planning logics: the diversity with differentiation, in order to examine intrinsic needs of urban planning design jobs.

Abstract: The rapid proceeding of urbanization in China, brings about the urban planners both of the opportunities and the challenges. Many planning works copied the western theories blindly, or manipulated with the concepts stylishly. All of these blueprinting makers are still indulging in their self-delusion. These planning works could not confront the equity appeals of society groups, while the construction at a high level of velocity. We have no choice but self-possession, re-think the foundation of the logics of planning, and the innate characters of planning design jobs. The authors brings forward the epistemological foundation of urban planning logics: the Planning Justice and the Planning Impartial in discussion, aiming at rectifying the mis-direction wrongs of planning design.

Abstract: Urban non-motorized transportation is the walking and cycling transportation. With the speeding up of China's urbanization, there is a rapidly increasing number of motor vehicles and the illegal parking phenomenon is serious, the space of pedestrians and cyclists is squeezed, the accidents of pedestrian and rider are increasing. Pedestrian and rider are suffered in inconvenience. This paper discusses the advantages of non-motorized transportation which is including environmental value, social value and aesthetic value. This article draws lessons from recent research and provides the human-oriented strategy of Chinese non-motorized transportation which includes the reasonable layout of city transportation network, detailed division and diversified pattern of land use,the safety transportation infrastructure, the high quality environment of the street and the public policy to promote non-motorized transportation.

Abstract: Human activities must not develop spontaneously being driven by its own internal logics and they should be regulated in a certain manner since they appear to be a limited aggregate of material and natural conditions. The prominent mathematician and physicist N.N. Moiseyev believed that «coevolution of human society and biosphere – within the common meaning of this word combination, - is practically a synonym of the term noosphere introduced by V. I. Vernadsky, E. Le Roy» [1, p.142.] It is highlighted in the Copenhagen Declaration (7 December, 2009) of the International Union of Architects that ‘the concept of the project sustainability” accepts all the architectural and city planning objects as a part of a complex interactive system related to its natural environment» [2]. Therefore sustainable urban development depends directly on city planning activities. Capital construction must be in harmony with consequent formation of noosphere with due regard to socially viable management of natural and anthropologic processes and relations development. A number of scientific criteria are suggested to secure socially significant capital construction management on the grounds of the theory of the noosphere genesis.

Abstract: The common thread that links Reggio and Messina can be intended for the two cities to grow stronger and tie, with the alliance of Villa San Giovanni, moving towards advanced urban quality and performance. Time seems ripe to fulfill set evoked forty-five years ago with Project 80 for a new type of urban civilization towards a metropolitan scale because only high urban ranks could be considered able to provide goods and services that belong to a civilized society. The irresistible charm the City on the Strait has, is probably due to an extraordinary liquid significance to be considered as a primary infrastructure. The City of the Strait is not to be seen as a city that gets bigger, or two or three cities that become one; it is a city with solid and liquid ways, with significant urban parts that also interact visually, that wisely integrate and re-know in a richer and more complex territorial identity. The growing presence of the territorial risk dimension has to push for the need to innovate the forms and practices of urban planning, basing the plans and the projects for the city on risk prevention, building to offer itself to the widest dimension of the Mediterranean basin as a privileged point of observation about seismic hazard assessment.

Abstract: This research work aims at providing a methodology to analyze quantitatively energy sustainability of existing urban fabric and creating an urban energy system model as a decision support tool for the urban planning processes. Spatially resolved energy demand allows the identification of critical areas of energy consumption (CECA), in particular, a local-type spatial analysis has been adopted, GIS based, using a Kernel density estimation (KDE) and maps algebra. Within the CECA a simulation of energy consumption on an annual base for a representative building was carried out, in order to explore and estimate limits and vulnerabilities and to propose a hierarchy of energy-savings measures, addressing different scales of criticality in urban energy systems, from the city to district and block level.

Abstract: The transition to sustainable development today is the most important goal for most countries. According to the currently existing concept, sustainable development cannot be achieved without consideration of the mutual development priorities in such areas as: social, economic and ecological development of the territory. Methodic of urban planning strategies for sustainable development are presented.
