Abstract: The topic of this paper focuses on the virtual interactive prototyping and augmented reality prototyping. The prototyping of the manufacturing systems is of utmost importance. The prototyping phase is also important for maintenance for manufacturing systems. The paper propose a new approach taking into account several key ideas concerning the manufacturing machine components. The overall objectives of this paper are to propose new models and techniques for virtual prototyping and augmented reality.

Abstract: This work aims to generate the digital documentation related to a number of manufacturing processes on different machine tools. The project is developed with the contribution of engineering students doing their final thesis within this field. Different machine tools and machining and incremental forming processes have been virtualized by using the CAD/CAM software CATIA V5. Some of the modeled parts were finally manufactured after checking and post-processing the NC code. Digital documentation is developed on different formats (e.g. photographs, videos, images and simulations) in order to be used as a teaching complement.

Abstract: This paper describes a method for autonomous virtual hand behavior construction in virtual manufacturing environment. The new mechanism is aimed to reduce user’s cognitive and manipulation loads. Based on a realistic and accurate virtual hand model; a strategy and an algorithm for behavior simulation, as well as continuous operation simulation; an intelligent and efficient virtual hand is generated. The experimental results demonstrate the ability of the method, to create an autonomous and reliable virtual hand in virtual manufacturing environment.

Abstract: The virtual machine tool is a new technology going with the development of virtual manufacturing; it’s one of the key technologies of virtual machine. It possesses enormous economic benefits and widest application outlook, so it’s gradually becoming one research focus. Therefore around the virtual CNC machine tool research subject, the NC machining simulation key techniques were studied. Based on the development of FV-1000 virtual machine tool platform, combined with UG and VERICUT software to complete a variety of different functions in instances of multiple CNC machining simulation.

Abstract: For higher geometrical accuracy requirement of optical lens, much research has been conducted either by changing the injection process parameters or changing the material of the mold or the mold manufacturing process. Although some degree of improvements was achieved, those were occasional but not-repeatable. One conventional procedure has been: the injection mold core must be polished several times to obtain qualified lens product in preproduction trial, very uneconomical and inefficient. In this paper, modern engineering tools were applied to simplify the correction process in optical lens fabrication. Combining virtual manufacturing with reverse engineering technology, the method was demonstrated very powerful. For the optical lens of 70x29.1mm in this research, the maximum deviation from the flatness after regular plastic injection molding was 0.208mm. While with combined technology of VM and RE the error was reduced to 0.008mm only by once iteration with an improvement of 96.15%. Not only the technology could be extended to larger or more challenging lens fabrication, it could also be applied to curved surfaces. This is really great tool to achieve higher quality optical lens production with much lower expending in labor and funding.

Abstract: Speech recognition is a technology that attempts to involve audio cues during interaction with machines, instead of being limited to just visual and touch interfaces. However, a keyboard and mouse input is an archaic method of interaction, adding on to the fact that voice control is seemingly more natural. This study aims to implement speech recognition as a form of machine control to perform simple commands in a virtual simulation process. The simulation system is an in-house developed augmented reality robotic work cell which includes a robot arm, a conveyer belt, a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, and a pellet. Issuing commands are performed via the Windows Speech Recognition software built from the Microsoft Speech Application Programming Interface (SAPI). This software is advantageous because it can be fairly accurate once trained properly, is easily modifiable by anyone regardless of the operator’s programming knowledge, and is free. A macros tool is used to support the additional features of the recognition software which includes directly programmable Extensible Markup Language (XML) codes.

Abstract: The virtual manufacturing technology mainly provide visual, auditory information, to achieve "what you see is what you get" the effect. Several typical definition of virtual manufacturing dominate in this fields were listed out, based on which expressed an explicit interpretation. Main features and three type of virtual manufacturing, such as design-centered, machine-centered and control centered virtual manufacturing were analyzed respectively. The virtual manufacturing system, supported by cutter tool magazine, pallet storage, production database, material storage and NC storage, have been demonstrated in an architecture figure. Finally, the author concluded the important role of virtual manufacturing and illustrated an example of applying virtual manufacturing in five-axis machining process.

Abstract: The main indicators of manufacturing companies competitiveness are time, quality, cost and related services, which make the manufacturing transform into new mode quickly. Manufacturing companies need flexibility and agility, so virtual manufacturing technology appeared. Virtual manufacturing is based on information technology, simulation technology and virtual reality technology. It can obtain many kinds of information by the aid of virtual environment. Before the design and manufacture of the product or system, virtual manufacturing can help people experience the performance and assembly relations of future product. Thus it can help people make decision and optimization scheme predictably.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the advantages and the vision of Reverse Design from virtual manufacturing. With the reverse design method, the real geometry after manufacturing process (by simulation) was predicted. In the first part of the study, comparisons were made between difference cases (the injection position and the amount of the pin gates). Based on the results from simulation, it is clear that 4 pin gates are better choice. In the second part, under the 4 pin gates working condition, considering the warp from the injection molding process, the actual minimum gap between the fan and the frame after assembly is smaller than the original designed gap. Therefore, to get the ideal product to keep the designed gap between the fan the frame, the radius of the fan should be reduced or the radius of the frame should be increased. While in other case, which was simulated with 3 pin gates, the real gap is larger than the original gap. Therefore, to get the ideal product, the radius of the fan should be increased or the radius of the frame should be reduced. In conclusion, original designed parameters could be modified, with the help of virtual manufacturing (by simulation) to make the assembly more accurately efficiently.
