Abstract: Weihe River Watershed above Linjiacun Section is taken as the research objective in this paper and NH3-N is chosen as the water quality parameter. According to the discharge characteristics of point source pollutions and non-point source pollutions, a new method to estimate pollution loads-characteristic section load method is suggested and point source pollution and non-point source pollution loads of Weihe River Watershed above Linjiacun Section are calculated in the rainy, normal and dry season in the year 2007. The results show that the monthly point source pollution loads of Weihe River Watershed above Linjiacun Section are discharged stably, the monthly non-point source pollution loads of Weihe River Watershed above Linjiacun Section change greatly, the non-point source pollution load proportions of total pollution load of NH3-N are gradually decreased in the rainy, normal and wet periods.

Abstract: The Weihe River is an upstream tributary of the Yellow River that is heavily influenced by excessive pollutant discharge. In this study, the water quality of the Weihe River was studied based on five water quality indices: CODMn (chemical oxygen demand), BOD5 (biochemical oxygen demand), NH3-N (ammonia nitrogen), DO (dissolved oxygen), and PPI (potassium permanganate index), using monitoring data collected from 13 river sections in the middle and lower reaches of the river from 2001 to 2010. Our results showed that the water quality tended to deteriorate from the upper to the lower reaches of the river. Additionally, CODMn, NH3-N and PPI were found to be the major factors resulting in water pollution over time in all river sections, but the pollutant concentrations with the interannual variability differed in every section. Therefore, many efficient and reasonable measures should be carried out to control water pollution and improve water quality in the Weihe River.

Abstract: China is in a period of rapid urbanization. Many riverfront cities are trying to realize the river-crossing development and may cause serious issues with urban expanding, such as environmental devastation and rural transformation. Thus, we must take the multi-objective as the orientation in landscape design of urban riverside areas. In planning the landscape area 50km in length along the Weihe River between Xi’an and Xianyang,we have proposed an idea of establishing the National Weihe Wetland Park in the entire area, by using the principle of partitioning the park into regions, limiting and linking the nodes in urban spaces and clusters of different functions along the riverside, to achieve the multi–objective of combining protection of ecological environment, renewal of urban area and continuation of historical context in landscape design. This paper discusses the goals of landscape design in urban riverside areas, analyzes the feasibility of establishing the National Weihe Wetland Park and details the systematic structure of the park and the methods of its construction.

Abstract: Economic development of guanzhong area has produced a series of impact on Weihe River’s water quality, that deteriorated seriously. Environmental pollution indicators conclude ammonia nitrogen, permanganate index, COD. Weihe River water quality was improved significantly through the adjustment of industrial structure, increased investment in environmental protection and policy made to protect the Waihe River. Environmental materials is very beneficial to environment. In recent years, the new environmental material technology what can be promoted in Guanzhong region, which is carrying out the zero-emission technology in heavily-polluted paper industry, it can solve the pollution problems from the source, and it play a significant role in improving the water quality of Weihe River.

Abstract: With the method of co-integration, the relationships between GDP and the total water use from 1980 to 2009 in the Weihe River basin are studied. The results show that there is a co-integration relation with a long time between GDP and the total water use.

Abstract: The major problems of the Weihe River include shortage of water resources, serious water pollution and loss of water and soil. The ecological basic flow of Baoji Section, Weihe River was 10m3/s. Based on it, quantitative analysis on the ecological basic flow of this section has been done. It shows that the effect of Baojixia Irrigation water diversion on the Weihe River is the main influence factor. The guarantee measures are rational use of water resources and water saving, management and policies, and water transfer projects.
