Abstract: The evaluation of PEG as a gelation solvent for an organogel based on β-cyclodextrin (β-CyD) was investigated using principal component analysis (PCA). The test tube tilting method was performed to examine the gel formation experimentally. The important descriptors used in the PCA included the Hansen partial solubility parameters. LogP may be able to be used as an additional descriptor for this system. According to PCA analysis, PEG was in a cluster of gelation solvents. Subsequently, various PEG liquid state grades were tested for their ability to gel the system and PEG400 was found to be able to produce a gel. This verifies that PCA can be successfully used to evaluate the role of PEG. Accordingly, this PCA method may be an effective tool to evaluate the role of any solvent for other low molecular weight gelators (LMWGs). Afterwards, the optimal components in the system were explored, and it was found to be 0.1M β-CyD, 0.5M K2CO3 in PEG400. Based on WAXS, the gel fiber of this organogel was demonstrated to be amorphous. This forming organogel will be further characterized in details and investigated for use in a drug delivery system.

Abstract: Cyclodextrins (CDs) can form inclusion complexes with a variety of molecules making them very attractive in different areas, such as pharmaceutics, biochemistry, food chemistry and papermaking. In this communication the preparation of β-cyclodextrin-grafted cellulose fibers was carried out by reacting β-cyclodextrin with cellulose fiber via citric acid (CA). Both fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and cross polarization magic angle spinning solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (CP-MAS NMR) indicated that β-CDs had been chemically attached to cellulose backbone through the formation of ester bonds. Furthermore, the β-CD-grafted cellulose fibers formed inclusion complexes with ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CipHCl). And the β-CD-grafted cellulose fibers loaded with CipHCl showed excellent antibacterial activity against E.coli and S.aureus.

Abstract: In order to reduce odor emissions such as NH3 and H2S, this study designed experiments to investigate the effects of bentonite and β-cyclodextrin on producing and releasing H2S and NH3 during kitchen waste composting. All experiments were performed in simulated composting device. The results showed that the productions of H2S were reduced by 16.4% and 13.7% for the treatments of 2% and 3% that compared to addition 1% bentonite, the productions of NH3 were reduced by 0.1% and 54.8% for the treatments of 1% and 3% that compared to 2% bentonite addition. For the treatments of β-cyclodextrin addition, the productions of H2S were reduced by 33.9% and 31.0% for the treatments of 1% and 2% that compared to addition 3% β-cyclodextrin, the productions of NH3 were reduced by 30.8% and 23.5% for the treatments of 1% and 3% that compared to 2% β-cyclodextrin addition. After integrating the reduction of NH3 and H2S emission, 3% bentonite and 1% β-cyclodextrin addition are the preferred during kitchen waste composting. Compared with bentonite and β-cyclodextrin, β-cyclodextrin is the better additive for the odor control during kitchen waste composting.

Abstract: Fe3O4@β- cyclodextrin magnetic functional nanometerials have been successfullysynthesized and developed as a magnetic solid phase extraction for thedetermination of trace Cu(II) in environmental water samples. The resultsindicate that:adsorption rate is effeceed by pH、temperature、time and capacity .And at pH of 7 and 55°C,the adsorption rate ofβ-cyclodextrin Fe3O4 magnetic microspheres to Cu(II) canup to 97%, and static adsorption capacity was 28.51mg/g.Besides,someenvironmrntal samples’s results were satisfacting as recovery is in the rangeof 95.9%-102%.

Abstract: nclusion complex of cholesterol:β-cyclodextrin (CβIC) was characterized for thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The difference of endothermic peak between inclusion compounds of cholesterol:β-cyclodextrin (CβIC) with pure cholesterol and β-cyclodextrin endothermic peaks confirmed the formation of inclusion complex. SEM results showed that of cholesterol:β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex (CβIC) observed in the form of irregular crystalline particles which has different morphology from CHO and βCD. The results obtained from this study will able to give valuable information about cholesterol-reduced egg yolk properties that could be useful to produce healthy-egg yolk based products.

Abstract: Spinel LiMn2O4 cathode material was rapidly prepared by solid-state combustion synthesis which used lithium carbonate and manganese carbonate as raw materials and β-cyclodextrin as a fuel. The effects of amount of β-cyclodextrin and calcination temperature on their structure and electrochemical properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), galvanostatic charge-discharge test and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The optimal synthesis conditions were found to be 5 wt% β-cyclodextrin. Under these conditions, high-purity spinel LiMn2O4 was obtained, and its discharge specific capacity was 110.5 mAh/g in the first cycle and still retained at 99.9 mAh/g after 40 cycles.

Abstract: In this study a new and environmental biopolymer membrane has been synthesized by incorporating β-cyclodextrin polymers as the reagent and using vinyltriethoxysilane (JH-V151) as crosslinking agent. The FT-TR and SEM were used to characterize the functional groups, morphology and pore-size. The results indicated that the prepared membranes exhibited relatively large pores, and the average pore size was 5μm. The study of adsorption behavior demonstrated that the prepared membranes could be considered as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of acid dyes from the wastewater.

Abstract: Clove oil is a natural antiseptic and analgaesic, however, its volatility strong odour, insolubility in water, and low physicochemical stability limit its application as food functional ingredients. The aim of this study was to investigate the physicochemical and release characterization of inclusion complexes of Clove oil in β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD). The formation of Clove oil /β-CD inclusion complex was demonstrated by different analytical techniques including Particle size analysis, TG analysis and SEM. The release rate of Clove oil from the inclusion complex was controlled.

Abstract: The complex of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and RC2540 dialkyl pentasulfide was synthesized and characterised by means of fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TG) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Then the friction and wear behavior of RC2540, β-CD and complex were studied by four-ball test using the mixture of PEG-600 and water as base fluid, and finally the lubrication mechanism of β-CD and the complex were analyzed using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The experimental results revealed that the complex had formed well and had better antifriction and anti-wear property than β-CD. RC2540 in complex was released and the extreme pressure film was formed on the friction interface in the friction process. The β-CD molecules in complex were cracked into fragments, and the fragments with hydroxyl also formed lubricating film and fragments with no hydroxyl were mainly carbonized. The lubricating film of the complex had a better tribological performace due to the cooperation of the lubricating film of β-CD and extreme pressure film of RC2540.

Abstract: In this paper, the PVA film with clove oil/β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex was used to package cherry tomatoes Experiment on cherry tomatoes showed that weightless rates increased along with time, and sensory equality score of cherry tomatoes began to decrease sharply in the 2nd day of storage. PVC antibacterial film had a controlled effect weightless and sensory change obviously, when the clathrate adding is 15%, the effect was the best.
