Realization of 3D Embossment Effect Based on a Relief Image

In order to get a 3D embossment effect from a single relief image, this paper proposes a new method. In this method, the object region is given height values based on the main idea that the whole image is regarded as a matrix which consists of many pixels, and then do some relative matrix operations to it. At the same time, the whole image is considered as a 2D grid, and the colour–level of the image is regarded as the height value. Then render a 3D mesh. In order to obtain a better visual effect, a light treatment is set for the new generated image.
