Serration Optimum Design of Gear Plunge Shaving Cutter

Plunge shaving cutter has many advantages compared with other types of shaving cutter. Without transverse motion, the shaved work gear profile is primarily affected by serration arrangement. It causes more difficult to design the cutter than others. In this study, by modeling the meshing of shaving cutter and work gear, the shaving process is simulated by Solidworks API to get the shaved work gear profile. Based on this simulation method, optimum serration design for shaving cutter is carried out to find the best serration parameters.
