Abstract: In this paper an automatic and intelligent mechanical part library design framework is proposed by utilizing network resources through real-time collaborative design. The proposed framework is based on the client/server network environment, where Web-based scripting language is used for parametric drive design. On the server side, according to the characteristics of parts and data structures, an extensible library of mechanical parts is established for users to use. Graphics data compression algorithms used in the collaborative design are also put on the system's server-side. The proposed framework provides an effective way with information sharing and flexibility for modern mechanical product design.

Abstract: Cryostat is an important equipment of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).It is the outer part of ITER Tokamak. There are three issues to solve the parametric design of cryostat: First, the parametric description of cryostat model; Second, program design; Third, the establishment of Database. In this paper, take a simplified model of the cryostat as an example, after the parametric description of cryostat finished, the parametric design of cryostat has realized through ACCESS Database and the automation technology of the secondary development of CATIA under VB (Visual Basic).

Abstract: To input rational customer requirements into engineering design process more effectively and improve product design quality and market response efficiency, this paper focuses on the interaction between market analysis and engineering design decision for the modular product. While many researchers have successful evaluated and optimized the design schemes, few, if any, have provided a bridge the customer selection and firms product development decision. After a review of the literature we introduce the flow of user-engineering design interaction including both maximize the utility of customer and the profit of the firm. On the user and market analysis flow, customer requirements are defined according to the target market, then the customer selection possibility link to the product attributes by utility function. Accordingly, the alternatives are corresponding to the module different product, and then using decision support problem method to search the optimal design parameters. Two design domains can share the design information and realize the cooperative design process by computer computing platform.

Abstract: In order to solve the problem that design resources can not be effectively reused, variant design is used in engineering field. Knowledge is the key factor implementing strategy of variant design. This paper puts forward the knowledge classification, process model, information resource base and reasoning model for variant design. Knowledge of variant design is classified into product domain knowledge, variant design methodology and basis theory knowledge, variant design process combines top-down mode to bottom-top mode, its corresponding information resource base includes case base, knowledge base and database. CBR is the core for design reasoning. The frame of knowledge-based variant design system includes resource base, resource management, variant design and evaluation subsystem. Using the system, designer could reuse design resource and reduce developing cost.
