Review from Ringgold Inc., ProtoView: The proceedings, published before the conference was held, contains about 120 papers on modeling and characterizing materials, nanomaterials, electronic materials, energy and smart materials, composite materials, metal casting, mechanical processing, materials joining, surface engineering, and tribology and wear. Among the topics are the optimum stacking sequence design of composite sandwich panels using genetic algorithms, the optical study of gadolinium oxide nanoparticles synthesized by the hydrothermal method, the ball indentation technique for estimating the mechanical properties of a bi-metallic weld, preparing and characterizing the thermal spray coating of glass microspheres on metal substrates, and the tribological performance of a non-asbestos organic brake pad using various organic and mineral fibers.
