Abstract: At present, we still can see many beautiful buildings combining Chinese and western architecture culture in the hometown of overseas Chinese. Through the overseas Chinese local-style dwelling houses buildings are researched and analyzed, we can realize the collision and blend between two kind of building culture, and to realize the value of these buildings. In this, we take Kaiping in Guangdong one of home town of overseas Chinese as an example to do some research on the overseas Chinese local-style dwelling houses building, and to expatiate how to deal with the challenge better in today's diversification architectural culture world.
Abstract: This paper introduces the basic concepts of ecological aesthetic, pointing out that the ecological aesthetic comes from population, resources, environment and other factors, understanding the natural beauty from the harmonious compatibility between man and nature, the environment, perception, greatly improving the aesthetic value of taste. This paper introduces the core categories、aesthetic standards and the three characteristics of ecological architectural aesthetics in detail, interpret the ecological architecture and its aesthetic theory.
Abstract: During late Qing and early Republican Periods, the Guangdong overseas Chinese people living in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Southeastern Asia came back to their hometown areas to invest and build homes for their families. Thousands of Lu mansions, dwellings for locals, were built during that period. There were three purposes for that construction boom, 1) to build a pleasant and home for their families remained home; 2) for the overseas Chinese themselves’ retirement, because they were not allowed to be naturalized as citizens in their adopted countries; 3) to build a place for their own pleasant retirement, as they believed “fallen leaves should return to their roonts”. Given these reasons, Lu mansions were constructed in a different way from local tradition vernacular architecture, in terms of floor plan, facade, techniques, decoration, and even the most sacred worshipping shrine as well. Taking the Lu mansions in Kaiping as case study, the authors attempt to analyze how the socio-cultural aspects affected local people’s living tradition through building village houses for their families.
Abstract: Science manipulates things and gives up living in them. It is human but not science that lives in architectural space. But, this household is ignored in architectural designing process sometimes, especially in some modern architectural design. How to get architectural space and get the space around architecture out of the controlling of science is the main problem to research. Through analyzing Chinese living space based on phenomenology theories, we got something beneficial to the quality of the internal space and external space of buildings. These things have closed relationship with our body, such as our eyes, our ears and someone else all set up our senses and feelings. And, it is the senses and feelings that detect whether living space comfortable or not. Based on these researches, we set up the new mindsets about architectural space to get out of the restrictions from science.
Abstract: Huixian Taoist Temple is the Taoist architecture heritage of Quanzhen Religion during Jin and Yuan dynasties. The colored paintings kept in four main buildings possess history and art value. Based on the investigation and mapping of the existing paintings, the protection and restoration plan is determined according to the comparison, analysis and value estimation. Further discussion is forwarded on the protection method with advanced scientific concept and new technology.
Abstract: This paper is based on the general condition that renewable energy resources used in buildings in Guangxi subtropical regions. By integrating the case of 9# dormitory building in Bowen College, Guilin University of Technology, making compare and contrast to the effectiveness of using ground source heat pump system, air source heat pump system , solar electric water heaters under such condition, taking the effectiveness of using renewable energy resources in air source heat pump system, the author discuss the issue of renewable energy resources system and the integration of buildings and provides some suggestions.
Abstract: There are quite a few unreasonable cases of the planning and design of university campus in China college towns recently. The article puts forward three principles of the campus planning, analyzes the indistinguishable but subsistent mistaken concepts in the case used, and then offers some means to settle the problems such as lack of integrity awareness, bureaucracy thought and so on. The aim is to play some benefits for future campus design and architectural culture.
Abstract: Cave paintings from eight thousand years ago show that wood is one of the original building materials used by human. The earliest known wooden artefacts are about l4,000 years old. The history of wooden buildings is so long that its properties and effects on people and the environment are thoroughly known, which is a significant factor compared with today's synthetic building materials. For wood has many advantages, it will be sure to play an important role in the architecture design continuously in the future.
Abstract: The design of windows and glazing curtains is the key point in energy-saving design procedure. According to the investigation and analysis, energy losing through windows is in the majority of overall energy consumption. The types and behaviors of energy saving windows are discussed in brief. According to the specification of Design Standard for Energy Efficiency of Public Building of China, the thermal insulation performances of exterior windows are analyzed theoretically. On the basis of climate characters of cold region in china and requirements of the criterion for public architectures energy-saving design，the proper types for the northern region of china are put forward, and therefore provide references for architectural designers.
