The field desorption and surface diffusion of Na atoms upon atomically clean (100) and (111) planes of Ge monocrystals were studied by using the field emission method. The density of Na adatoms upon the Ge surface was determined by using a standard (112) W plane. The temperature dependence of the desorption field was investigated in order to determine the binding energy of Na adatoms at zero coverage. Values of 1.83 and 1.72eV were found for the (100) and (111) planes, respectively.
