Quantitative observations were made of Ag diffusion and pattern growth on thin oxide films. It was found that the patterns involved both fractal and densely-packed structures. The fractal dimension of self-similar clusters in 2 dimensions was found to be equal to 1.68; a value which was similar to that (1.70) which was predicted on the basis of diffusion-limited aggregate growth theory.
