A model was presented, for the transport of N in austenitic stainless steel at about 400C, which took account of N diffusion in the presence of trapping and de-trapping at sites which were formed from Cr. The N depth profiles which were simulated on the basis of this model, assuming diffusion and de-trapping activation energies of 1.1 and 1.45eV, respectively, were in good agreement with experimental N profiles.
