The evolution of a rarefied 2-dimensional Li phase, with a concentration of less than 1/50 of a monolayer, was detected during Li surface diffusion on (112). The formation of this Li phase was suggested to be evidence for the existence of very long-range lateral interactions. A non-monotonic shape, and an unexpected development of Li concentration profiles on (112), were also observed.
