By using 2 different assumptions for the energy of quasi-crystal dislocations, the phonon strain energy was related to the phason strain energy by means of the strain energy ratio. The possible ranges of this ratio were deduced, and a new type of dislocation association was proposed. This reaction described the dissociation of a perfect dislocation into 2 other perfect dislocations. The energy ratio due to the phason and phonon strains, of dislocations with Burgers vectors along 2-fold directions, was calculated on the basis of recent experimental observations. Recent experimental observations of partial dislocations were also considered.
