The room-temperature diffusivity and solubility of H were measured in Pd alloys, which contained up to 5at%Y, by using an electrolytic method. It was shown that the addition of Y increased both magnitudes. The behavior of H (table 12) was analyzed by using H potential models. It was suggested that Y atoms did not act as trapping centers for H atoms at room temperature. It was concluded that the addition of Y decreased the H site energy in Pd, and also lowered the activation energy for H diffusion. The decrease was attributed to a lattice expansion which was caused by the Y additions.
