The excitation spectrum of the 0.11eV Mn acceptor was investigated by means of uniaxial stress and Zeeman Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy. The results revealed strong support for the 3d5+ shallow hole model for the Mn0 center. The deformation potentials, as well as the g-values which were deduced for the hole, were in close agreement with those that had previously been reported for the 1S3/2(8) state of shallow acceptors in GaAs. The experimental results were in accord with a J = 1 ground-state level which resulted from exchange coupling of the shallow 1S3/2(8) hole and the S = 5/2Mn- core.
