Paper eintragenThe defect structure of the superconductor was studied by fitting electrical and O non-stoichiometric data to various models. It was found that those which involved charged O vacancies (isolated or associated) were not suitable for the simultaneous description of the dependence of both of the above properties upon dopant level and O partial pressure. Neutral O vacancies and their associations with dopants were considered, and this resulted in the successful modelling of all of the existing experimental data. The defect types and configurations could be rationalized in terms of bond mismatches between the (LaO)2 and CuO2 layers of the structure.
