Novel layered perovskite compounds were synthesized by using an ion-exchange reaction of Ta2RbLaO7 with Ta3Ca2RbO10. The compounds, which were essentially metastable, could be obtained only by ion exchange. The crystal structures of the Ag ion-exchanged compounds were determined via Rietveld analysis of powder X-ray diffraction patterns. Relatively high ionic conductivities were observed at high temperatures, and were attributed to inter-layer Ag ions.
