The behavior of D in MANET II alloy was studied, at temperatures ranging from 194 to 465C, by using a time-dependent gas-phase permeation technique. It was found that the temperature dependence of the diffusivity or solubility could not be described by a simple Arrhenius expression over the entire temperature range which was investigated. At temperatures below about 330C, the diffusivity was greatly reduced due to the effects of trapping. The Oriani model was used to deduce the trapping energy and number density of traps, as well as the relative amounts of D which were dissolved at lattice and trap sites. It was suggested that the most likely trapping sites were located at interfaces between martensitic laths and between second-phase particles and the metal matrix.
