A comparative study was made of the nature of the bonding in binary compounds with the zincblende structure. The real-space pseudopotential, which reflected the valence-electron distribution, provided useful information concerning ion transport in super-ionic materials from an electronic theory point of view. It was shown that the bonding in Cu and Ag halides was determined mainly by anions. The results were expected to provide a microscopic basis for the usual picture of a mobile ion in a cage of immobile ions.
