A quantitative estimation of dislocation energies was carried out with regard to the -to-18R martensitic transformation. Dislocations which were produced by macroscopic deformation of the parent or martensitic phase were considered. Crystallographic changes in the dislocations during transformation were established, and the anisotropic theory of dislocations was used to calculate their energy when embedded in the -phase or martensite. Good agreement was found between the calculated separations of partial dislocations, and the corresponding line orientations for minimum energy.
