The behavior, under a shear stress, of growth twin boundaries in bicrystals was investigated in order to determine the possibility of growth twin boundary movement via the generation and motion of twinning dislocations. Previous studies had shown that a growth intergranular boundary with a twin orientation could move via a mechanical twinning mechanism. It was concluded that the required conditions for the generation of twinning dislocations were basal slip, and the transformation of perfect basal dislocations into partial twinning ones.
