Scanning tunnelling microscopic studies of the (¯1¯1¯1) surface revealed highly ordered reconstructions with 3 x 1 symmetry. The structures were produced at high annealing temperatures, and were thought to be driven by a Sb deficiency of the surface layer. The proposed model for the reconstruction involved 2 distinct structures. One involved a missing Sb row in the topmost double layer, and the other involved 2 missing Sb rows with an additional missing row of In.
