A simple method was proposed for the estimation of the fractional interstitialcy component, f, of B. It was based upon an interpretation of oxidation-enhanced diffusion data under extrinsic conditions. The model satisfactorily explained the experimental results when the value of f was 0.25. This indicated the existence of an important contribution of vacancies to B diffusion.
