Atomic-scale calculations were made, of the dynamics of 90 partial glide dislocations, by using effective-medium tight-binding theory. The kink formation and migration energies of reconstructed partial dislocations were compared with experimental data on dislocation mobility. The results confirmed the assumption that the partial dislocation moved, in the dissociated state, via the formation of stable kinks.
