The properties of composites which contained various amounts of alumina were characterized by using alternating- and direct-current methods. The composites were prepared by using an unconventional technique: the thermal decomposition of solid solutions of Al2(WO4)3-x(MoO4)x, where x was between 0 and 3. It was found that the electrical conductivity of Al2(WO4)3 could be improved, using this method, by between 1 and 2 orders of magnitude. The greatest improvement was observed for alumina contents of 50 to 60mol%. The increased conductivity was mainly due to ionic migration.
